First officially paid manager?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Bit confused by this.. there was an article in the Indo before xmas stating that full time employees were not allowed train any county teams except development squads> The example of Mick Dempsey was given. In Wexford Paul Carty is not allowed train the U 21s

As far as I know most of the top guys in the GAA in each county have made jobs for themselves and are now getting paid. I think this can be confirmed in Wexford anyway.
Also to think that any senior manager of a county team in Ireland is not getting paid in some way is very niave.
Managers and players have been getting paid in some way for years.
I know of players who have had things like the insurance on their cars paid or other such contributions.

John Evans will no longer be entitled to receive mileage expenses after becoming Tipperary's new director of football.

The Killorglin man will combine his new role, which comes with a salary of around EUR45-50,000, with that as manager of the Tipperary senior, under 21 and intermediate teams. But he stands to lose as much as EUR12,000 per year in travel expenses

12grand in expenses?! Good God i had no idea that standard expenses would accumulate to this kind of an annual figure. Its far from an amateur organisation

You mustn't have been very good at the geography redandgreen - Evans wouldn't be long racking up the milage travelling up and down to Tipp from Killorglin 4 times a week.

12K is nothing compared to what some are getting. The beauty of it is that it is not vouched/clocked or TAXED, way better than a salary.

He was quoted a few years back in an interview.
I was present when the interview took place.
The County chair was quoted in a paper saying no Tyrone manager has ever got paid.

Maybe you would need to prove he is instead of throwing out your accusations.
The same being for the other managers who do not get paid.

Not everyone has sold out the amateur status just yet.
We all know where you stand on this and the big future you see for the organisation.
All the money that is being made and not filtering down to the clubs.
Leading to elite getting looked after and the lesser beings overlooked.
Slán.

I was told that he is still training the team, but he cannot be the official "bainisteoir".

ah Watching,

I am not making any accusations about anybody.

The thing is that even Croke park have spoken about brown envelopes and tables. So if you tell me that no manager has been paid in your club then I am supposed to believe everything you say.

This was something I wanted to put across to you. When you mention the GPA, at least the likes of the Government grants were all above the table.

I have made a point concerning yours, thats all.
You asked a question i answered it.

As for my club, yes managers have got paid in the past, very little i believe, but paid yes.
I have no say on these matters.
I believe i have backed my response.
So who is slating who now?
