The club is undoubtably in the top two or three clubs in down at underage levels
With the talent that is being produced there they are bound to establish themsleves as strogn contendersfor the title this year and you can be assured of progress over the nect few years !!

Just no

I would have to agree with SabhallBhoy as the saul youth set up is very good. Each team from under 8 up to the current minor squad have all attained many medals from the top level at their age group, and each team is a rival to the very best in each age group, something that other teams - including Kilcoo and Carryduff cannot match. Recently the ladies football at the club has further backed this up with the teams performing brilliantly in every competition entered. With the new management at the club, there is no reason that the senior team will not match the success of the other teams in the club.

Saul have a very strong under age set up which is a credit to them. However it is very difficult to transfer success from youth to senior level. Very few players on any good minor team make the step to senior football & those that do take a while to settle in.

Given that the senior team at Saul is fairly weak they need as much as possible from any youth coming through. They have a new manager now who will have a big job to maximise what telent he has.

It takes hardwork from all at the club & good luck to them as they are not afraid of that.

since we got relegated from div 2 our senior team has been very dissappointing, i dont think we have even reached the playoffs and i dont expect us to this year either. However il be at each home game again this year supporting paul and the lads. Realistically div 3 is extremely competitive this year and all teams will drop points. I reckon any team that can win all their home games and nick a few points away from home will do enough to reach the playoffs.

Heart&saul, why only home games? Why not go to every away game too?

To be realistic, Saul are not in the top two or three underage clubs in east down. They had an ok under-16 team this year but that's all. I heard absolutely nothing about their minors but i know they weren't in the East Down A section. They can't challenge the teams like Kilcoo, Bryansford and Carryduff who all have teams in the top 4 or 5 in each age group.

i go to most away games too, depends on what time i get home from work and where the game is. Friday nights are perfect for most people but can be a bit tricky for me from time to time. Sundays are perfect however i miss very few county games.

if you's are such a club on the rise what minor players are likely to stand out this year? have u's even got any one person worth talking about in minor level? i know that we have a very strong team this year with alot of strong lads which will make little boys of you lot.. to be a club on the rise there would need to be county standard players coming through at all age levels, does saul have that? i do no the seniors have alot of potential but can this be transferred onto the pitch?

I would liek to respond o the last comment made there. Saul does have good minor talents that could get onto the minor team and some even have another chance next year! John Cunningham who was one of our seniors best players last season is minor again this year so he is one. Young Daniel Tonner from the Portaferry direction is playin his trade with us and he is also a smashing footballer. Some of the younger players like the Arnold twins, Leigh Cunningham, Mark Magil and mabye Rory Mullan as well! It is a very strong minor team this year!

THIS THREAD IS A WIND UP.

How can you really say that Saul are a top 3 team in Down?
Teams which are better than Saul at underage in Down easily are Kilcoo, Bryansford, Bredagh, Carryduff, Burren, Mayobridge, Rostrevor, Glenn, Clonduff, Ballyholland.
I would like to see the incredible underage teams of Saul go up against the top teams in down, it would be a complete and utter hammering every time, the teams would be laughing at them.
Fair enough they might be starting a good underage set up, but their players will not improve unless they are pitted against the top teams and this doesn'y look like its going to happen anytime soon IMO-well factually

that is a young team.. there is no final year minors to stamp authority which will be your downfall.. is that all the players you can name capable of great things? because all can be marked out of a game pretty easy and playing with alot of them from underage level i have done so myself.

Is that why Saul u-14s in the season just past were only topped in the A-league by a very strong Carrdyuff team. And let me also remind you that 3 seasons ago Sauls u-14 side came the closest to beating the kilcoo side than any other team. And to reply to an earlier post, we have no 2nd year minors this year to drive us on. John Cunningham who is an all-ireland winner and also Danny Toner who are both 2nd years. And island man i would severly doubt you have marked all of those names out of the game. Who are you then? You must be on the down minor team this year then if you are as good as you let on boy! And island man we will see how you do against us this season then

come on lads catch yourselves on this has to be a wind up, there are minor teams in the county that would beat saul seniors, realisticly saul supporters will have to stare long and hard into the future with squinted eyes to see success and winning a few under 8 matches doesn't count as success, i have to laugh you have talked about having a good under8 team, now this thread has to be a wind up, because who honestly measures under age success by how competative thier under 8 team is? and someone in this thread said that there are players for saul who have won more than players from kilcoo at the same age, now could you list those achevements for me because i know people from kilcoo with anouther year at miner to go with 7county winners medals, an all ireland and an ulster all just for there club and their in an ulster final in a few weeks! i will be very surprised if any one from saul has been so succesfull?
