"i have been saying it for a long time ,echo way better gaa paper more coverage more positive coverage no negative attitudes towards wexford players or management---------"

Well said bogstandard, though there handball coverage can be questionable fromtime to time. I thought they'd have a weekly supplement for it at this stage.

:-D

Tough thing to do, lots of blasts from the past. Few glaring mistakes I would think. Mick o Leary!!! No disrespect but are you telling me he was a better wexford hurler than diarmuid lyng, paudge courtney, liam bennett (should be way higher up the list), john o connor. I think not.

This topic was always gonna be a controversial one but the way Furlong did it is beyond a bit of controversy, it's an actual joke in my opinion. One stand out one in the hurling for me is Darragh Ryan so high up in comparison to Liam Dunne. Darragh is one of my favourite Wexford backs of all-time, but his career wasn't as long as Liam's and even still Liam Dunne in my opinion has been a greater hurler at both county and club than Darragh Ryan. Yet there's 10 or 15 places between them? Liam Dunner shouldn't be so low anyway, I think he's 25 or something, he's definitely top 10 material. And that's from a Rathnure man!

Yes to me Scott Doran is the biggest omission from the football list and I mean by a long way. He'd have to be in the top 5.
To me he would have been the next best player after Mattie in the last decade. He was there a long time.

Colinwex You are spot on with Scot Doran,a gifted footballer. He was better than any of the current forwards bar Matty. It would be a toss up between Hegerty and him though.
Would definitly have Scot in the top 50

Lads, reading all these posts about scott doran makes me wonder what games i was watching when he was around. He was a good footballer, yes, but as good as some people seem to think ? i doubt it. What did ever do to merit such a high ranking with some people ? And to put him in the same league as matty, ridiculous.

Scott is 36 now so I think his playing days with London or Wexford are definitely over.
Still would be a good addition to any senior club side though.
His club was Kilmore although he played with neighbours Rathangan for a short while.

Disagree strongly with Yellabelly re Scott Doran; a brilliant little footballer and certainly in the same league as Matty Forde. Kerry legend John O Keefe, having seen him play against the latter,s Clare in the mid 1990,s,(Scott scored 1-9), described him as "a smashing little footballer" and he should know his stuff, being on the greatest team of all time. His omission from Brendan Furlong,s 125 best footballers is an absolute disgrace and was certainlly not done for footballing reasons. Then again, he wasnt the only one disgracefully left out of Furlongs football and hurling selections.

so ONE good performance against Clare should get him into the 125 best EVER Wexford footballers ??? And yes, john o keefe should know his stuff, and he made the comment about ONE game. Matty has done it at club, county, interpro and compromise rules level over a career of 11 or 12 years.

Scott Doran was a good footballer played some great games for wexford ,not quite as good as forde ,but still very good for a few years .once again all i say is that all stars ,team of decades teams of milleniums are all a pile of crap how can we compare 1950 to 2010 ,equipment is different ,players are fitter now .i could only name a team for the last 18 years maybe before that i didnt really remember great players ,is brendan furlong in his nineties or is he over 100 now.

Yella belly, this is not a discussion about Scott Doran and Matty Forde. The crucial issue here is his absence from Furlong,s list. It is completely unjustifiable. Do you not agree? By the way, Scott Doran was on the Wexford senior team before his 19th birthday and played up to 10 years with the county turning in MANY memorable performances, not just ONE! He also played for Leinster on a number of occasions, maybe not starting but coming on a sub. I dont think he was as good as Matty; what Wexford footballer in recent times has been, apart from maybe Mick Carty and John O Gorman. Furlong should have to account for his selictions as he has done more than Doran a major injustice.

santiquattroeye, i wouldnt get into the debate about who should, or shouldn't, be on any list compiled mr furlong. It served its purpose, it filled the sports pages for a few quiet weeks during the winter. If you think scott should be there, thats ok with me. But I still wouldn't put him in the same class as Matty. And I am well aware of scott's playing record. He was one the best minor players I've ever seen in croke park, bar none. That was with a good Wexford minor team in 1992/93. But if we really want to pursue this, there are MANY other players who should have been in that top 125, but were omitted by mr furlong.
