Biggest rivalries in football and hurling?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Kilkenny and Kerry people like to think they are Meath's rivals in their respective code of choice. In reality, Meath don't really do rivalries such is our dominance in both football and hurling.

I often like to compare the Meath team of the 80s to the Meath team of 90s! So thats probably the biggest rivalry out there right now.

527467 There is no one rivalry bigger or better than the other, it all depends where you are from. I do not understand or fully realize what a Leitrim v Roscommon derby means to a person from those places, ditto Tyrone v Derry, Armagh v Down etc

To me it is Cork v Tipp that holds the most attraction, especially in Thurles, in the square, Munster championship day, the banter, the pints...nothing beats it boy..the record is pretty even, both counties have won approximately half the battles (Cork have not won one for a few years now), and they are always battles, always sporting too, a few schmozzles but nothing serious.. b]

very very true! except no pints for me im under 18!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

meaths main rivals are defintely dublin....but there are many counties in bordering areas who would find other counties rivals...up drawda way ya have the louth boys...then up north theres a healthy rivalry with cavan believe it or not!...down south then ya have the flourbags...late nineties and early noughties meath-kildare threatened to be a big rivarly...fizzled out but looks like it could be about to be rekindled as both counties on the up again...had a good battle aswell last year in a very competitive league game....my guess is a meath kildare leinster final this year...that would really get it going again

Down-Armagh.

Their supporters envy our successes and will be 110% behind Kildare when we play them, not that it bothers us ;)
