Spot on Ta32. What set Fallon apart from his European counterparts was his terrific understanding of pace. Today, Fallon can probably get off a horse after a race and tell you to the nearest fifth of a second the winning time of the race. How did Dunlop get there he didnt even compete at the highest level in his sport. Can minority events like the Ulster GP or Isle of Man TT compare to racing in MotoGP. This island has produced racing drivers/riders that have competed and won at a much higher level like John Watson, Eddie Irvine and Adam Carroll trimmer (Meath) - Posts: 543 - 03/01/2010 19:24:35 523549 Link 0 |

Michelle Smith shouldn't be anywhere near this list lads, get real. She may not have actually been found guilty, but I would suggest this is down to the imperfect methods of testing in the mid-90s, and her tampering with urine samples (something she was found guilty of) Look at Smith's times before she came from nowhere to win those medals in Atlanta, she was a mediocre swimmer at best. One of Ireland's newest and most promising sportstars, 16-year-old Grainne Murphy from Wexford, is currently breaking many of Smith's dubious records. In time she may be worthy of a place on this list, but Michelle Smith certainly is not. nocky (Wexford) - Posts: 2059 - 03/01/2010 19:51:17 523568 Link 0 |

Michelle Smith's medals stood and therefore that achievement stands. She should be there but of course you can understand why she was left off it. Real Louth fan (Louth) - Posts: 3157 - 03/01/2010 22:06:14 523650 Link 0 |
The part of this "small island nation" with a population of four million is known as the Republic of Ireland and Ulster sports people are from that part of the island known as Northern Ireland, which has an additional population of 1.7 million. So ulster should be erased from this poll david09 (Kildare) - Posts: 115 - 03/01/2010 22:24:37 523665 Link 0 |

Kevin Moran??? More on the achivment than been an excellent player.Won two all-medals with Dublin before going on to play for Manchester United, wining two FA cup medals. Also represented Ireland in the 1990 world cup.An outsider I know but that is a remarkable achivment and will be hard matched in the future. Real Louth fan County: Louth Posts: 3030 How many of the above are proud holders of Irish passports? Ireland does passports? Wow. Is there a banana on them? Lads, take away the North and does "Ireland" have any exceptional sports people? De Bruin, Kelly and Roche, yes, but their sports are dominated by drugs. Mind you what isn't? patrique (Antrim) - Posts: 13709 - 04/01/2010 01:19:39 523759 Link 0 |
