Historically, Tuam, St Mel's Longford, St Finian's Mullingar, De La Salle Waterford, St Brendan's Killarney, St Colman's Newry, and the two St Pat's, Armagh and Cavan. That is for football.

Hurling, it would be St Kieran's, North Mon and St Flannan's.

In more recent times, post boarding school in other words, a number of colleges from unlikely places have emerged.

Quite a few have one title, unless I stole this medal here.

I'm assuming Patrique that as you are noted as an alumnus at Scoil Mhuire na mBráithre Beal Feirste that you were part of their Hogan Cup winning team in 1971. I would have thought then that you would also have been part of their Mageen Cup winning team the same year

Well done. I would think myself that quite a few schools have one title. Sorry if I implied otherwise.
Looks like a belligerent new year already, have a good one

In my time it used to be St. Brendan's of Killarney, Coláiste Iosagáin of Ballyvourney, Coláiste Chriost Rí of Cork & De La Salle of Waterford in Munster.

Gormanstown of Meath & St. Mel's of Longford & St. Jarlath's of Tuam were also big names to be contended with as were St. Coleman's of Newry.

All has changed utterly since & I think Coláiste na Sceilige is now the team to beat in Munster & St. Pat's Navan in Leinster & St. Patrick's Dungannon & also St. Patrick's of Maghera the Ulster teams of substance.

Since the old boarding school dioscesan seminaries have gone by the wayside all has completely changed. Same holds true for hurling.

I confess I only have two Mageen medals, but we also won the all Ireland B hurling that year. O'Keefe Cup, beating Presentation Birr 4-17 to 4-5 in the final.

We actually played the highly controversial MacRory semi against St Malachy's at CBS Omagh, as the school owned the pitch, and not the GAA.

The GAA would not give us a pitch due to the presence of Martin O'Neill on the St Malachy's team. Must have been 20 at the game, on a Wednesday at 2.30 during school time.

Would have attracted about 10,000 to Casement.

So just to be clear, no Hogan medal then?

That semi was in 1970 wasn't it? St Malachy's went on to win the McRory and got beat in the Hogan final.
