Best place-kicker ever that I saw was Charlie Gallagher of Cavan. He never missed anywhere from inside the 50 Yds line as it was then, and a good few from outside it

Greg Blaney was a brilliant centre forward, but Down had many greater place kickers over the years - Paddy Doherty and Ross Carr to name just two.

According to a lot of posters on here there's only 31 counties in Ireland and the '03, '05 and '08 All-Irelands simply never took place. Wouldn't worry about it, we know the truth

Canavan was a great footballer but I wouldn't have him up there with the top 10 best place kickers.

The art of putting the ball on the deck and slotting it over the bar being lost to the game at present - Canavan good from the hands but not as good as say Keavney or McTague from the placed ball. Seán O'Connell of Derry was also good if memory serves me as was barney Rock and Dara Ó Cinnéide for instance.

Charlie Redmond unsed to rack up some big scores for the Dubs and his style was fairly distinctive too.
