heartandsaul,

You know the Lecale area like the back of your hand, and your right Dunsford & Rossglass are not near each other. Rossglass, Scollockstown, and Bright is all part of the present day Bright parish.

hard to believe that some of the best footballers to play for dow hail from that same region. The vennys and dohertys, 2 of them made the irish news top 100 ulster players of all time earlier this year or last year. Both ballykinlar and bright are struggling badly now.

Did Bredagh replace Ballyhackamore in Belfast? When did Ballyhackamore go out of business and when did Bredagh start up?

I would have thought players from that part of East Belfast would be closer to Bredagh than St Paul's in Hollywood.

I think Bredagh was formed in the early 1970s.

i hear that there are big problems in ardglass, the commitee have all resignsed, only 11 turned up for agm. They had another meeting and 19 turned up and in the new year there will be one last meeting to see whether its worth bothering to continue. Couldnt believe what i was hearing, a few months ago they were in the semi final of the ifc and their minors won their league unbeaten and beat castlewellan well in the championship.

I'm sure they will sort it out. To much talent to go to waste.

Thanks for your concern Heartandsaul. Your figures regarding the AGM are slighty wrong, however this was a reasonable turnout since in 2009 we had under forty full members. The committee of Ardglass consists of 5 people and have been struggling to keep the club going off the field, therefore they stood down to encourage other members to step up to the mark and pull their weight, however they were never resigning from the committee, just elected office, regards the on field end of the club you forgot to mention the u16s winning their league section, and also the seniors winning East Down and county Feis sevens along with the annual Connolly Cup victory! So as long as i have breath in my lungs and a beat in by heart there will be Gaelic At Ardtole, looking forward to welcoming you to the Ardtole in 2010.

i am glad 2 hear it gaeliclife, though we are rivals i dont like to see any gaa club struggle. If u have read any of my previous posts, i have mentioned that i think there is huge potential in ardglass and with the players they have are definitley underachieving. I saw them twice last season, they destroyed us in ardtole and against ballymartin in the ifc should have been well in front at ht but collapsed in the 2nd half. I genuinely hope everything gets sorted out because gaa in our part of east down is struggling badly.

I'm a bit late with this, but I see you have listed Magheralone. Have you any idea how long ago this was, or where they played their games?.

It's a pity that so many clubs have disbanded. Mostly they are through lack of players and so amalgamate with another club to help raise the numbers.

Correct me if I'm wrong but when Annesborough were last up and running, were'nt Aughlisnafin not ?

I'd always assumed one resulted from the other folding.

Can't see any room for a new club with St Johns, Dundrum & Castlewellan all also breathing down their necks for players.

Also seem remember Annesborough as a bit of a rest home for disaffected Castlewellan players, which would be a bit pointless.
