Lissan

In my opinion Lissan is a big waste of money and has many more negatives than positives. Dont get me wrong a centre of excellence is a great idea, but to carry out the development in the way Lissan was done is a disgrace. The main problems I have with it are; * Cost - The land and development was far too high * The Site - Up a mountain? Hello! * Pitches - Only 2 Pitches and them of very poor quality. Newtownbuttler's pitch would be better, well it wouldn't, but you get my point! * Changing Rooms - Again only 2 changing rooms, fair enough big but only 2, what were they thinking? If there is a blitz or competition on this doesn't work. Thankyou, I look foward to hearing your views.

Totally agree should of had more added Negatives. its in the middle of nowhere on the top of a FREEZING Mountain. Two pitches in bad condition very soggy. only two changing rooms for a county center holding all sorts of senior and underage trials and matches blitzs and schools games. its hard on the pocket clocking them extra miles up the side of that mountain Positives. Its somewhere out of a town were young people wont be hanging round it drinking and abusing it ive seen grounds were this has gone on they can leave some mess and damage. Its well signposted what they should of done. Built in a nice quite countryside with proper roads and parking. build 4 or more dressing rooms. build a couple of hurling walls. a indoor hall nothing high tech just a hall for indoor training.

Lissan looks a mess and the thought of training up on top of those mountains isn't very appealing but on the other hand, if you are training there regularly you will find the massive benefits when playing games down at ground level. I agree completely with the other idea's but i think on top of a mountain was a good place to locate it.

As people might be unaware that matchs are not supposed to be played there it is a training facility.. Thats all they got planning permission for. So 2 changing rooms are perect... As for NTB field it is the worsed field in the county, nothing can compare to it.

This post seems to have a lot of attention..... I'm curious, How many people commenting have actually trained on lissan for a period of time?

Not talking about matches but actually trained for few weeks at a time.

I'v trained constantly on lissan for about 4 years now and noticed the difference so I know what i'm talking about. Maybe it's just me but I can definately notice the improvement.

Fermanagh10...Thats the reason I asked. Having trained on Lissan for long periods of time, I myself noticed the difference and do think the fact it on a mountain helps players control their breathing which improves fitness on lower ground.

I think the people slatting the ground have never trained or gained the benefits so dont know what they are on about.

yes, i've trained here over a number of weeks. it really is a horrendous setup.Poor planning, poor management all round just poor. (and because of the money spent the county board is poorer for it)

Ah yes...Lissan has really helped our players cardiovascular fitness, that must be why we've won so many ulster championships...oh no wait we havnt...in fact we lost out because of terrible shooting, but then i supose we cant blame Lissan for that because the gale force winds, rain, hail and snow up there would have perfected our shooting to be of outstanding quality!

Wise up lads...the setup is a farce!!

If u say the set up is a farce why... the goal post dont move from one pitch to another. If u can kick point on a bad day in lissan you should be fit to kick them on a good day in clones.
Have u trained there.....
I know i have... It does not have anything to do with the weather the county ladies train there and look how fair they god O yea but lisan was no good thats what u say...
Wise up, has ur club got better facilites then lassian, Has it got gym facilities oh i really dont think so.......

Played and trained there for years and would have to say it gets you ready for all conditions.

Can't see the big fuss though, we were always treated well and Joe McGurn is an absolute gentleman.

Alot of club teams trained there when ever their own pitches were unplayable or being developed.

At least we have a facility in the county that caters for clubs also. Some clubs in the county don't even have changing rooms.

its not high enough up for 'altitude training' so that points rubbish, how can you expect players to gain confidence to shoot when in training theres a gale force wind blowing constantly?? co board should have built changing rooms beside the two bottom pitches at st micks and they could have helped with the funding. theres a gym and sports hall at the school and parking too.

what a load of rubbish being talked on here about lissan.
2 quality pitches, massive sze, enough for 4 teams at a time to train on.
great changing facilities, big size for team of 30 with ice baths, plus additional facilities of old mobile style classrooms, for changing/eating/watching tv clips of oppostion teams (for the county teams).
In summer time dozens of kids play at cul camps/blitzs and go on development camps there not a problem.
what exactly is the problem here?

no other club in fermanagh can match it, closest is St Micks as they have a gym plus 2 pitches.

kinawley, belcoo, brookboro and devenish have 2 pitches but no other major facilities.
Loaction wise only brookboro of the above 4 is central to guys from fermanagh and belfast and dublin based players.
yes location not the best but I didn't see many gaels out there coming forward to give 20 acres of their land for free to the Fermanagh Co Board to build this. If they had, then the money could have been spent on building projects on the grounds, think what we could have had then???

I have trained up there for 4 yrs on and off and no issue, surface always great, its excellent in the summer. nver a puddle on the pitch.
Bit breezy but sure name me a ground you have played at that hasn't been windy/wet/sideways rain taking your eyes out at some stage of the season in some part of Fermanagh.

Do other counties have some kind of "oasis" like places where the sun shines/it doesn't rain/its bright till 10pm every night of the year.
I don't think so.

take a look at louths!! hardly one of the big hitters on the all ireland stage!! they have 6 full size pitches including a 3g, all floodlit. a cross country track, 12 changing rooms including the latest multimedia mumbo jumbo. fair enough their changing rooms aren't quite finished yet but will be soon. surely the county board can see their shortcomings regarding lissan??
