506222 Mr Luke Kelly - Northside Dub.

A very important distinction Jim. Its great to be a Dub but its all the sweeter being from the right side of the river!

Its between luke kelly and liam clancy for me. I cant choose between them to be honest... I think clancy may have been a bit more musical, both outstanding though. Its a shame these guys are a dying breed, the soul in their voices is breath-taking, how many of today's singers could that be said for?

Ulsterman County: Antrim Posts: 1410 506754 Eamon Largey was a great Belfast folk artist "Oh me name it is Sam Hall, Chimiley sweep., chimiley sweep" spelt phonetically to get to the core of Eamon. I played before him once at what is now the Mandela Hall at Queens. My mate and I played "Roisin Dubh" as an air and Eamon was raging as this was one of the "Column's" better known numbers, they called it "Mise eire" as in the TV programme. You would have thought Eamon had written the air. But good memories. I hung around with Francie McPeake in those days, and they were brave chanters as well. Francie, being mega famous and a friend of Dylan and all that, once introduced me to Joan Baez, now she was a singer. Memories.

Programme on BBC1 @ 10.35 tonight is about Joan Baez. Great singer indeed. My mother was a friend of Eamon's wife Kathleen and my da says Eamon was quite a character. He died in a car accident in Andytown didn't he?

I remember Eamon and Kathleen well, and that concert I played at was in 1971 in Queen's, and Eamonn's group as you know was called "The Flying Column" so at l3east we know the musiuc was not being "oppressed".

I think it was a car crash with Eamonn, I think I was "away" at the time if the old memory serves me.

Just watching that programme Patrique. Hate the way Dylan tried to claim that "With God On Our Side" is his original composition when we all know it's Dominic Behan's Patriot Game. I remember a few years ago Rod Stewart had to change details in one of his albums when he put after the song "Will you go lassie go - written by Rod Stewart" when it was in effect written by one of the Belfast McPeake's (Francie I think).

Dylan stole from everyone at the start, that's what made him so good. He even got poot Joan to sign for him until he was famous enough to ditch her. Pure business man.

Granda McPeake, who would now be Great grand da McPeake is credited with the wrds, but it is amn old Scottish air I believe, although Northumberland claims it as well, the air that is.

On His LP "Hard Nose the Highway" Van Morrison credits Francis McPeake with the lyrics.
