Terrible that there was absolutley no social welfare fraud till the immigrants came??!! that right dyffy? I remember you posting some months ago that you were 19 so you are probably about 20 or so now. Pity a young fella like you has only hate and scandolous gossip to be spreading!!!

501358 Paddyogall, you are wrong !! It was a bus she got on !!

She fairly gets around that woman! bit rich duffy calling me ignorant when your after coming out with the most ignorant comment i've seen in a while.

How ??????,i'm speaking out of experience.I'm not entitled to a penny but yet some geezer comes from another country 1000's of miles away and get's the full amount.I worked since I was 16 till I was 19.I go down to the dole to put in for the dole only to be told ''i'm not entitled to nothing due to me father's earning's'' which ain't that much atall. So I have to file for credit's.Xmas is coming up,I have a girlfriend and me family to think of,who's going to help me ?.You can call me racist for telling the truth if you wan't I don't care what someone up the other end of the country think's.

You don't get full dole because of your age!! It's the law and the same for everybody. If you knew anything you'd know that most EU nationals get nothing at all unless they have worked and contributed like everybody else! At your age there are still plenty of opportunities so get up off your rear!!!

If you can't find anything I imagine its because you don't have th skills or ability to get them so you deserve what you get!!! But hold on I am sure the public sector will lift the embargo soon and there'll be a place for your lot!!! LOSER!!!

When i was your age the last thing i wanted was to be on the Dole, Education is what a young fella needs. Its only right that they stop 19 year olds going on the dole. Unless there are extraordinary circumstances. You mention you have a girlfriend and a family, if this means you have a kid etc then by all means your entitled to the dole, but if worried and getting your mam, dad and girlfriend a few christmas presents well thats a bit of a joke. Also if you worked full time from the age of 16 to 19 then your entitled, if your on about a bit of part time work then you probaly didnt reach the bench mark to pay tax. It doesnt matter what my Job is, the fact i'm keeping it because i went on to further education, got my degree and my masters, if i must say my leaving cert was pretty **** so no excuses there. I do apoligise I wasn't full up.between the age of 16 - 19 I was working in the same supermarket.I finished me LC 2 yr's ago and got **** points,so I applied for a course in Sports & Leisure.I got it.Me father (extremely old fashioned) told me it wouldn't get me no where in life (because of the LC point's).So I applied for job's all over the place.I got a job in a supermarket working night's,I couldn't cut it after working from Oct - Mar.I was then laid off.I applied for the same course last Sept and got a interview but didn't get it.I made the fatal mistake of only applying for 1 course. So if you opposed unsubstantiated and racist comments you are 'PC'??!! Somehting new!!!

i very rarely post on HS but really felt the need to do so after reading through this thread. Duffy89, im only a few years older than you but have managed to get a degree and masters so cant really understand ur situation - however i do empathise with what ur goin thru, especially at the time of the year it is right now. however, im disgusted and annoyed at how easy the youth of ireland are reacting to non-nationals, you may claim your not racist but what you have said is the epitomy of the latent racism which is thriving in every sector of irish society - and this is not just idle giving out - its something that i have needed to study for my qualifications. it wasn't so long ago that we were delighted to have polish, lithuanian, latvian and any other nationality here to work, mainly doing the jobs which irish people refused to do. How would the economy have worked without an increase in builders, cleaners, etc. I worked in a factory for a summer alongside 2 lithuanian men who had degrees in engineering!these are not people who want a free handout, the majority took jobs that would be 'beneath' a lot of Irish people! it wasn't even that long ago that our grandfathers and their fathers trawled the world doing the exact same thing, trying to provide a better life for themselves and their families.whats so different now? do your research, look into things a little more before following the xenophobic trend thats happening today.u say ur not a racist but its a slippery slope which youve already started - the reality of things is that were only in the situation we are in- as is the rest of the world because of the two american banks FreddyMac and FannyMay who've screwed credit up for everyone. at the end of the day were a part of the EU - which means were all entitled to get work in any other eu country if available. dry your eyes, tighten up, and keep lookin for work / colleges until you get something u want

Can't believe how quick people are to turn their own backs on there fellow countrymen and women. Sorry to hear about the problem Duffy, I think you should be entitled to some social welfare. It annoys me how people attempt to bend and twist peoples opinions in an attempt to make them out as racist. Perhaps if the show was on the other foot for some of these people.....

During the boom thousands of people came into the country and readily got jobs. What were the 180000 Irish dole collectors doing that they could not get jobs ?
I appreciate that there are people who have health issues etc who could not work but there was still a lot of able bodied people drawing the dole then and now.

He should be more entitled to it than others coming in from another country and why should they get it and not him . They should be all thrown back to there own.

How embarrassing is that, and to think some posters actually respect this guys views.

Excellent post, agree completely with you. Racism is endemic in Irish society. Makes me embarrassed to be Irish.

Im sorry but people seem to be missing Duffy's point completely. Calling someone a racist is a very serious matter which shouldnt be done lightly, its not a term to be bandied about.
You talk about the Irish emmigrating, they were forced to find work in Australia/America etc. Social welfare for immigrants did not exist and still doesnt! I dont think anybody on this thread has mentioned problems with immigrants coming to work, the problem is with immigrants recieving social welfare.

I think Duffy is perfectly justified in feeling aggreaved with the way the system works. A lot of people have used this thread as an excuse to climb onto their high horses and make accusations in an attempt to win the argument by taking the supposed moral high ground!
I dont agree with the statements made by certain posters which do seem to be prejudiced but I feel this is from failure to properly express their point than malice of any sort.

Absolutely, and we still cannot get an answer as to whether Dell should be thrown back to Tyrone, or if he should have been thrown out of Tyrone in the first place.

P.S. I am extremely insulted in being called Xenophobic and racist and all them dirty word's just because I pointed out a plain fact.I will admit I shouldn't have said Pole's but I should have said non natives as I know people not from the county and not living in the country that long (only a month in fact) and they leaving there job's only because they knew they'd get more on the dole. I have every sympathy with your plight, but if your not xenophobic then you sound like it, for gods sake man your 19? look out into the bigger world and go for it instead of whinging about what others are getting rightly or wrongly.

Duffy, by law all EU citizens have to be treated the same no matter what country they are currently living in (to change this as you want, you need Ireland to leave the EU). No one is getting treated better than you, everyone is getting treated the same. For someone that has never paid any tax or PRSI towards to state (you would not of earned enough), what gives you the right to be giving out about someone that has pay their taxes. If a Non Irish was in the same situation as you he/she would not be entitled to anything.

Social Welfare legisation deems that your parents earn enough to provide for your whole family, there are other social welfare allowance that your family might be entitled to if your family income is low. If your household income was under the means limit you would of being entitled to claim Job seekers allowance, but its not, maybe you should cut down on the pints with your mates if you are broke, or maybe when your left your supermarket job you should of made sure you had a backup plan like most people would do.

Whoever said that the non irish get their dole sorted on the first day they sign, thanks lol (can imagine them having announcements in the dole office saying irish to the left and non irish to the right with one counter for the irish and 10 counters for the non irish).
