Should rugby or soccer be played in Croke Park in the future?

Also rugby is played throughout Limerick (and other counties), hardly West Brit heartlands. It is also played in 90 odd contries worldwide. GAA supporters can also be rugby, soccer fans too or tidlywinks fans as d'Horse says. It doesn't matter what sport we are playing, if Ireland is playing we should support them. Some GAA fans are an embarrasment with their seige mentality, it's time to get over the "Brit games" thing. We all know what they did, it's time to move on. Typical southern attitude.

Donkeyford, children receive heavily subsidised hurleys and helmets in schools the length and breadth of the land. Post on a topic you know something about and stop living up to the name "donkeyford".

If you're correct in that statement then i'll hold my hands up and admit i was wrong.. can you back it up?? The reason i ask is that recently we had a coaching school in our local club recently and we asked the county board for a sliothar for each child as per the coaches request and we were told that we could have one for every two kids.. now if they would only give us that then im fairly positive they wouldn't be subsidising hurleys and helmets... or maybe they do things differently in Longford.. Anyone from other counties able to shed light on the "heavy subsidising of hurleys and helmets in schools the length and breadth of the land" as per Greengrass' statement...

Easy there toothfairy... some of us in "the south" are not like that at all and are very sympathetic to the plight of our northern brethren... mind you i don't believe in distinguishing between north and south.. 26+6=1

What are the IRFU & FAI going to do when the tantalising prospect of 82000 in Croker OR 50000 in the new Lansdowne for important matches rears it's heads? You can almost guarantee a full house in Croker for England, France, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and maybe Wales in the rugby and top soccer games in Euro and World Cup games. The chance of an extra couple of million will be too much for the GAA and the other sporting bodies to turn down. As for the arguement over whether it should happen well that is yesterday's news; that horse has already bolted.

mick14 well said they do not have the decency 2 play our anthem

I was at the Rugby V South Africa. They only played "Ireland's Call".

Here are the words, I still remember them from primary school and was able to sing along.

Sinne Fianna Fáil
A tá fé gheall ag Éirinn,
buion dár slua
Thar toinn do ráinig chugainn,
Fé mhóid bheith saor.
Sean tír ár sinsir feasta
Ní fhagfar fé'n tiorán ná fé'n tráil
Anocht a théam sa bhearna bhaoil,
Le gean ar Ghaeil chun báis nó saoil
Le guna screach fé lámhach na bpiléar
Seo libh canaídh Amhrán na bhFiann.

Yes it should. Also, the compromise rules should include France since they are well able to handle the ball, we could call it the triple something cup

Wouldn't follow the rugby in croke park. They used never play the national anthem and only play it becuase there are using croke park. Disgraceful.

Oh and RE dhorse: I think referring to me as a 'black and tan' is unacceptable whether you were joking or not. I am deeply insulted.

Not so sure that any of the soldiers who shot dead fourteen people in Croke Park in 1920 were playing rugby for England in Croke Park in 2007. Donkeyford it is a fact that subsidised hurleys and helmets are made available to primary school children throughout the country. Best of luck with your underage coaching initiatives. Hopefully you will find your county board more supportive of you in the future than they were in the past.

british soldiers came into croke park and shot up the place because michael collins had his men shoot a number of special branch men (irish men) the night before
a kind of tit for tat killing

Revisionism at its worst. The men whom Collins had shot were members of the British forces in Ireland. They were professionals engaged in a war and were fully aware of the risks involved. Collins men were also fully aware of the risks they themselves ran in relation to their own activies. Those people shot by British forces in Croke Park were innocent civilians attending a football match who were mown down in a vicious act of retribution. One victim was fourteen. Another was a child of ten.

No, far from it.

The post you refer to was merely ignorance, not revisionism.

revisionism tries to interpret the "real" Irish history, you know loyalist/royalist/monarchists killed by Cromwell, Loyalist/Royalists defeated at the Boyne, that type of thing.
