502401 Rugby - Yes - its got a 32 county national Irish side.

Soccer - No - not at least until we have a truly representative 32 county side & not the shambolic outfits of a six county team and a twenty six county one both of which generally cannot find their way out of wet paper bags.

only 12 counties play in hurling Championship,,, can they stay using it??

Yes to both. Money from the renting of the stadium to The IRFU and The FAI goes to put hurleys in the hands and helmets on the heads of children the length and breadth of the country.
Can't agree with you dhorse about Croke Park not being a "Super Stadium". I've been to games in many stadia including The Emirates, Old Trafford , Anfield, Celtic Park, Twickenham, Murrayfield, The Millenium Stadium, The Nou Camp, The Stade De France, The Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Shalke 04, Sporting Lisbon and more besides. Croke Park for sheer scale and majesty beats all of them. It also when full matches all of them for atmosphere. In a word it is magnificent.

Greengrass there is no doubt about the fact that Croke Park is a wonderful stadium, and one that we all rightly should be proud of, but I disagree that it is a better stadium than all of the stadiums you mention in your posting. This has come up many times before in previous threads, but had the GAA got rid of Hill 16 and completed the stadium in a bowl effect, a la Stade de France, Wembley or Millenium Stadium it truly would be one of the greatest stadiums in the world, as it stands its like an unfinished stadium. Therefore I would have it in fourth position behind Stade de France, Wembley and the Millenium stadium as the best stadium in Europe, for stadiums with a capacity greater than 70,000.

I think it should continue. Didn't go to any of the other codes when they were there, but would have loved to have been at the Ireland V England rugby game. It's one of those occasions you remember for the rest of your life. I would also dearly love to see a Scotland V Ireland soccer International played there as the exposure would help promote gaelic games in Scotland.

Let us never forget history, but look to the future.

No they shouldn't and there are many reasons but two main ones

Firstly the GAA is more than a sportng organisation it is also a cultural one and foreign sports arent included in that culture
Secondly would you let your wife's ex boyfriend move into your house for a ridiculous fee when your not struggling with the mortgage?
Course not, so fair enough we got them back on their feet but now it is turffing out time, so get them out now before they take the wife and kids with them

BY they way I am a big fan of rugby not so much of soccer and attended rugby matches at Croker and I supportted the interim arrangement because it would have caused more harm than good, national teams playing abroad, loss of revenue for the economy, ill feeling to the GAA etc but there is no danger of that now, so your money was nice but good luck on your own from here on!

Also if someone agrees with you it doesnt mean that they make a good argument, there is good arguments from both sides. And if you don't want foreign sports back in Croker then it doesnt make you thick, ignorant, racist or anything else it is what you believe to be best. That argument coming from the pro foreign sports crowd is the weakest on here, as the usually the case to discredit the debater and not the debate.

I've always been completely against the idea and i still would never watch a rugby game there but then i wouldn't watch a rugby game anywhere because it's an awful sport. Anyway back to the point i don't know now weather i want to keep making money off them or if we'd be better re-establishing Croke Park as a Gaelic stadium.

Completely disagree with you there. While I don't think either should be played in Croke Park i find rugby more offensive. They won't even play the national anthem. At least when Ireland play in soccer I feel a sense of national pride, same can't be said for rugby.

Players (especially children) provide their own playing equipment.. Each county only got 250k from the rental.. now do the maths Greengrass.. 20 players on a panel, give each one a helmet and hurley say 50 for both (not sure of prices) so that would equate to 5000 kids in each county = 250 panels from u.8, u.10. u.12. u.14, u.16 = 50 clubs.. and so on...

Donkeyford, children receive heavily subsidised hurleys and helmets in schools the length and breadth of the land. Post on a topic you know something about and stop living up to the name "donkeyford".

I always hear the anthem at soccer games, i was never at rugger bar once in scotland.

i think the lad you were agreeing with was cool with rugby, it was soccer he disapproved of, must be of good breeding, rides with scarteen black and tans perhaps?

ta32 What are you on about?
The Irish rugby team plays Amhran na bhFiann every time they play on Irish soil abd have played it everytime they play in Croke Park, and might I add the version by the garda/army band is a lot better than any that I heard at a GAA match all year. Played with a brass band and at a march tempo not difficult but the attempts by the GAA to ake it sound more profound have failed stick to the way it is mant to be played

Agree with you omaghjoe & the anthem is sung & respected right up to the final note ... not like at our own GAA games when it's interrupted well before its ending. Anyway as you correctly state its tempo is more of a funeral dirge at GAA games & the Garda Band play it exactly as it was meant to be (i.e. a marching tune) at the rugby.
