I think Rally Ireland should have super special stage in Croker like they do in the Millenium for the Welsh Rally

Excellent Idea, They had this at Wembley, Athens Olympic Stadium, so why not Croker.

497459 when soccer rugby, cricket or tiddlywinks are being played by irish people then they are our own sports

No, I looked and looked but can't see the logic here.

take off the blinkers

ay yes now I see. What you are saying is that if 2 australians played hurling then that would make hurling an australian sport. I see how that works.

Why not let them play soccer and rugby in Croke Park. Its a source of revenue for them, maybe then we would not be paying silly money to go to GAA matches in HQ as their targets would be met. As for the AVIVA stadium, is GAA allowed to be played in it? You would imagine that the AVIVA would be ideal for certain games where Croke Park half empty feels so gloomy and dead.

Judging by some of the posts on here, it would appear we are back in the 1920's rather than the 21st century. Good views from the likes of Patrique, dhorse and getonwithit, but some absolute tripe from others. At a guess, some would like to be grumbling over the same issues in another 125 years time.

Never.

Although the hallowed turf has already been soiled and it may not even be sacred anymore so perhaps.

letting rugby being played in croke park is great.. it generates money into the GAA and makes croke park a world wide stage but not to sure about soccer.

If the half wits who run the IRFU or FAI had actually built a stadium with a realistic capacity we wouldn't be having this debate. In saying that , I have no personal issues with soccer or Rugby at Croker. I like both sports after all.

Yes I would allow soccer and rugby in Croke Park in the future from October to April soley for financial reasons. It probably wont happen because of the advertising rights for the new Lansdowne Road.

i agree with Tongo we appear 2 be talking like we are in the 1920s. the fact of the matter is rugby and soccer will always be part of our community and theres no point fighting it like it or not. plenty of people who love the gaa play rugby and soccer

Che, they let ME play on it in 1971, or maybe that is what you were referring to.

If not, well If the likes of me can play there, why not lesser talents like Dan Carter, Terry Henry, and Robbie Keane?

You're right conor12, there seems to be some who believe that it's either or. I follow Gaelic games, Rugby and Soccer. None of the three diminish my interest in any of the other two, or effect whether i attend matches in the other two. Just seems to be a convenient stick with which to beat other sports with for some posters.

Yes, absolutely. Its difficult enough to get tickets for the autumn internationals and the 6N (thankfully Im a member of the supporters club but even at that it can be difficult). Its going to be impossible when they move back to Lansdowne (or should I say the Aviva). Therefore they should keep the big games i.e. Ireland v England, France, Wales, NZ, Aus or SA in Croker and leave the rest for the Aviva (Italy, Scotland and the rest). Also big Heineken Cup games (remember Leinster v Munster and the 83,000 spectators and more outside wanting to get in?). Cant see too many more football games been played at Croker unless theres a playoff. A Champions League or Heineken Cup final could be staged there as well. There certainly a strong case to leaving the stadium open for those sort of games. Whats the point in having a super stadium and only filling it twice a year? I hope the GAA see some since and keep the stadium open to rugby and football.
P.S. I love all sports and cant tolerate some peoples attitudes to the so-called 'foreign sports'!

If all the games you mention are played in croke park then aviva might not as well be built,,, No chance, on cost grounds if nothing else.
As for the Super stadium,,, its a big stadium ok, but average,,, no seats or cover at one end brings it way down the pecking order.

yes dhorse but its too good to have it idle for 6 months of the year.
Yeah, I wish they would finsh it off and make it into a 'super' stadium!
The games I listed are games that would attract in excess of 70,000 - theres still plenty to keep the Aviva going.
The soccer games and the remaining rugby games (ok, not too many) would probably sell out.
You also have FAI Cup finals, rugby club finals and maybe some big Leinster games (H Cup 1/4 or semi finals).
I just think it should remain open to these games. After all the GAA are making a fortune.

By all means leave it available to anything,,, but at the end of the day whatever they FAI or IRFU would might make from the extra capacity would go to in rent. that gravy train has left the station,,,, the elephant is starting to get a little grey if not white.

Rugby - Yes - its got a 32 county national Irish side.

Soccer - No - not at least until we have a truly representative 32 county side & not the shambolic outfits of a six county team and a twenty six county one both of which generally cannot find their way out of wet paper bags.
