I think they should let them play.It would be a great source of revenue for the GAA goalpost (Armagh) - Posts: 215 - 28/11/2009 18:18:34 496999 Link 0 |

What part of 'Soccer and rugby can't be played in Croke Park due to the terms of Aviva's naming rights' doesn't make sense? Benandonner (Antrim) - Posts: 459 - 28/11/2009 19:41:35 497066 Link 0 |
how do you think rugby or soccer is going to be played in croke park considering the millions upon millions of euro put into lansdowne?????!!!!!!! catch_it_wil_ya (Galway) - Posts: 541 - 28/11/2009 19:47:15 497075 Link 0 |
No more internationals but the GAA is looking to bring in other events and more concerts. I think Rally Ireland should have super special stage in Croker like they do in the Millenium for the Welsh Rally and maybe bring in club soccer like pre season tours. Imagine Real Madrid in Croker as opposed to Tallaght. I just hope the pitch doesnt get befouled by American football as some of the rumours have gone. trimmer (Meath) - Posts: 541 - 28/11/2009 19:50:44 497081 Link 0 |
Yes leave the option open, would be nonsense to turn down such a stream of revenue given the current financial climate especially for rugby. The 50,000 capacity of Lansdowne will probably be able to cater for most if not all soccer internationals but a few rugby games will command a bigger capacity and if they want to apply to use Croker then they should not be refused. It's been open for 3 years now and one would think that all the arguements made against other sports using Croke Park would be well and truly buried by now, it has been nothing but win win for the GAA and fair play to them, they had the facility when others didn't and reaped the rewards. rugby yes... soccer no.. and definitely not club soccer.. imagine the likes of millwall or galatasaray plating there.. they would wreck the place.... donkeyford (Limerick) - Posts: 119 - 28/11/2009 20:40:32 497141 Link 0 |

Bennadonner is right, part of the terms of Aviva naming rights in Landsdown is that ALL internationals games are played there so Croke Park can't be used. Pity but that is the way is it. There is also the poor folks who have bought the corporate boxes to think of :) county man (Limerick) - Posts: 1145 - 28/11/2009 21:20:09 497183 Link 0 |
How about the All Ireland ploughing championship? I am sure the GAA hq would state that there would be no damage to the field. Real Kerry Fan (None) - Posts: 2957 - 28/11/2009 21:48:13 497213 Link 0 |
