Abuse of underage referees

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I read a very good article in the local paper today in county meath regarding some refs do not want to do underage games because of the abuse . Now i also have to say well done the meath CCC on protecting refs in this county on suspenions etc not like the galway county board not sticking up for refs and many other counties and i feel the meath county are top of the pile of looking after refs . Now i do not want to hear from posters ah refs are bad becuse nobody in this world deserves to be abused like this and i for one will ref any game and i will clamp down as i did few times this on culprits . Also this accessor said the problem is more from mentors on sideline and parents and i think they show bad example and no wonder kids act the way they do .

well said dellboy i could not agree more they should be clamping down on this sort of thing.
protect those refs as they are already a shortage .
we need more people 2 stand against the thuggery that goes on heavy suspensions should put a end 2 it

I cannot stand anyone shouting abuse at a referee but it will continue until we sort out the problem of bad and inconsistent refereeing. It is the biggest problem in the G.A.A. at the moment but not getting much attention from on high. You would find it hard to find two games refereed in the same manner all last summer !! I know what you are saying about schoolboy games and mentors and parents shouting abuse and i have no time for it and it shows very bad example to children !!

I will give you a good example i went to watch a game last week and a intercounty ref was doing it and he got abuse from sideline because one team where making silly fouls and giving away frees but that was not refs fault that was the players that where giving these frees and this ref had good game but because a team got beat guess what blame the ref disgusting behavour .

Dellboypolecat County: Tyrone Posts: 7690 Of course they get abuse. On TV they see an ad with Ray Winston shouting at refs, and every week they see SiR Alex Ferguson a soccer icon abusing refs and GETTING AWAY WITH IT. Maybe now you understand I was bing serious when I suggested banning Alex and others for life before someone gets seriously hurt? And as you already know, I fully support giving refs backing, used to be one myself.

I have come across refs who are genuinely useless some of them come straight from the pubs to games, but that is no excuse to berate them, most refs sre genuine and try to do a good job.

I don't agree with giving refs abuse but sometimes it's hard not to. You can get caught up in the moment very easily....
