Well done to Mick on Wolves beating Chelsea, Mick is a decent man who gave great service to Ireland as player and as manager.

this may come as a big shock to all of ye, but this is a gaa site, who cares about soccer in the first place, 22 people diving around a field and getting 100k a week for doing it

Hopefully Roy's sacking and failed management will allow him to reflect on the diffuclties of management and perhaps he would issue an unreserved apology to Mick McCarthy and the Irish people for Saipan. I would also hope that blinkered Man U supporters and Cork people would reflect on Keane's actions in Saipan. Ask yourself if Garaham Canty would do an interview with Tom Humphries criticizing team mates and management on the eve of a major tournament. I rest my case.

He puts Ireland on the map. Should be respected. Met him several times . Great man!

I had great respect for him before Saipan but you couldn't respect him for what he did in Saipan and he has now become a bit of a circus act/journalists dream of late pontificating on everything when he should be concentrating on his job.

I love the way all the Keane haters totally ignore the FACT that the Geneis report totally vindicated RK.By the way Wexford man why dont you tell us exactly how Keane insulted his teammates in that interview with Th,apart from the fact that he had the cheek to say we shopuld prepare better for major tournaments?

You surely don't think Keane's reasons for his beahviour in Saipan was for the good of his country? As if it was some kind of noble stance. Watch footage of him before his outburst and you will see that he just didn't want to be there, he was a time bomb waiting to go off. I strongly disagreed with him knocking his fellow players and management in an interview on the eve of the WC, obviously within the circle constructive criticism is welcome. Ask yourslef how RK the (failed) manager would have dealt with a player who behaved like RK did in Saipan?

Failed Manager?Took Sunderland(5 played 5 lost) from Rock Bottom under Mother Theresa in Ch'ship to League title and consolidated themselves in his 1st year in the Prem, some failure that.He left them when he felt he took them as far as he could. He was Ipswich's most successful manager since Jim Magilton.Rk the player would've been ideal for Rk the Gaffur, like a little mini me.

What's with the Mother Theresa reference? Niall Quinn gave great service to his clubs and country and would be well respected & liked within the game. He seems to be doing a good job as chairman of Sunderland and was big enough to appoint keane as manager a few years back. Keane walked out on Sunderland beacuse the owner was ringing him, how delusional was that to think that he didn't have to answer to his employers. Keane walked out on sunderland as he did with ireland totally suiting himself with no regard for players, supporters etc. Poeple like mick mccarthy and quinn have stuck with their jobs through thick and thin. Also, keane's approach to management has been an archaic approach of going around with a big stick and there's no way he would have accomadated a lack of respect or petualnce from a player, good and all as a player may be!

Absolute disgrace that this thread has not been dis-continued. Moderators take note this is a GAA website, where has room been made in FA Premiership websites for the discussions about our game greats like, Christy Ring, Sheflin, Ned Power and so on. Get it sorted and remove this thread I would also caution the original poster who clearly has little to discuss regarding GAA in his own county! Refer to websites own "House Rules"

Don't be so backward and inward looking Deise man. Principles of sport can be applied to all sports. Lessons from Saipan can be applied to all sports and in the discussion references were made to GAA players. Any forward thinking GAA coach now is borrowing ideas from other sports eg Bernard Dunne assisted Davy Fitz, Bernard Jackman assisted Jason Ryan, many GAA coaches are reading sports books from other disciplines. I think women are allowed to vote on the 25th also though you may disagree with this.

Best of luck to Mick McCarthy in the relegation battle, a decent, honourable man who would never walk out a team in their hour of need!

Well what do the blinkered Cork people think of Roy's latest rant? The guy is so full of contradictions that it's hard to know even where to start
