Roy Keane

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Roy is priceless, walks out on his country despite being captain and then critizes Given whose commitment to ireland has never being questioned. Tells the irish people to get over the Henry incident depsite the fact that he can't get over Saipan even though he was in the wrong. Gives out about Delaney not phoning him, what did he want a friendly chat after walking out on his country. He walked out on ireland, sunderland and soon will be gone out of Ipsiwch where he's going aournd waving a big stick. I hope Cork people who sided with him during Saipan on the basis that he was from Cork will re-evaluate their stance.

Nope, Roy Keane is a legend!

And I agree with his comments, there was never in a million years going to be a replay, the media frenzy was verging on ridiculous and it was till to get over it and move on!

Nobody takes him seriously except maybe a few barflys around Mayfield. He should have stuck to GAA - I would do anything to hear Ricey McMenamin wind up Keane.

i stuck up for roy keane during the saipan incident.
but i am afraid he was wrong making a statement like that.
this was about an injustice to irish soccer squad not roy keane.
when he said what goes around comes around made me mad.
not very patriotic coming from a cork man

What sparked it all off was Roy saying disparaging things about his fellow players and management team in the Irish time interview with Tom Humphries. Would anyone think that was acceptable behavious from the captain of the team? By all means offer constructive criticism within the cirlce and in private but to a newspaper? I've never seen it in GAA. If you look at footage of Roy in Saipan before the bust up he looked like somebody who didn't want to be there. Similarly if you look at his rant last week closely you will see that he looks a bit demented in himself, i'd say he has his own problems to be honest. I had great time for him before Saipan but have lost all respect for him now. Cork people tended to back him on the basis that he's from cork, i could never really get that logic. Man United fans tended to back him in Saipan too but need to see beyond what club he played for.

Is it just a Cork thing ? Hurlers who won't play for the county, Roy Keane who walked out on his country, Stephen Ireland who refuses to play for his country etc etc

I'm sick to my teeth of people saying that Roy Keane walked out on his country etc etc. He was SENT HOME!! Both MacCarthy & Keane have both said that. I admire him for the way he actually wanted to give us every chance of going far in the competition and not taking second best & going on the tear. The Germans, French, Italians, Brazilians all prepare professionally.

As for his comments re the Henry handball & our reaction to it - I thought it was harsh. Damian Duff, Robbie Keane, Shay Given probably won't get the chance to play in a world cup again & I'm sure they're bitterly disappointed. FIFA got their wish, they seeded the teams. I think ourselves, Slovenia (Go Slovenia by the way - I'll be cheering them on in S.A.) Bosnia & Ukraine should have all refused to play when FIFA decided to seed the teams AFTER the group stages. The ref knew it was handball but was instructed to look after the French. Ireland were up against it from the start.

Self sabouteur of the highest order, ruined the chance to play on the highest stage twice in his career, once with Ireland and then with utd in semi in 99 needs to shut up and deal with his own team.......

gahfan you are not telling the truth.

Roy Keane did not walk out on his country in Saipan he was sent home by a Yorkshire man who happened to be manager of his country.
There seems to be a lot of people spreading the myth without being corrected that Roy keane walked out when the TRUTH IS Roy Keane was sent home - a big difference!

Ya, Keane was right with everything he said 1. Ireland had their chance to win before France scored;, 2. The ball should have been cleared before Henry got near it; 3. Ireland just didnt have the belief to go on and win (they should take a look at the rugby team); 4. J Delaney is a complete idiot (fully confirmed after the request he made to FIFA regarding the 33rd team); 5. 'What goes around comes around'; 6. Just accept it and move on! He's a man with a very strong opinion - I thought he was harsh at first but every point he made was spot on! Yes, a true legend! and so is Donal Og, and Ronan OGara and Sonia O'Sullivan ...........

James Horan etc, some people feel he was sent home, others think that he went home. Can you see that the interview with humphries was what sparked it all off? Do you think that was acceptable behaviour from the captain of the team? Also, Mick was prepared to swallow his pride for the sake of the team and the country and allow him back even though he shouldn't have been let back. You'll remember tommy gorman, even ahern etc trying to mediate and Mick was the one who was prepared to budge, despite the fact that he had been insulted and mistreated.
You say yorkshireman but Mick was operating within the rules of being from Irish descent. Have you a problem with that? Is it just Mick or is it Whelan, Houghton, Aldo etc. Also Mick was a limited enough player but served his country well both as a manager and as a player.
Ask yourself this would Keane he who manages with fear at Ipswich tolerate his captain carrying on like keane did in Saipan.
He was a great player but if full of contradictions and may realise now that management isn't as easy or as black and white as he thought.

499696 gahfan you are not telling the truth.

Roy Keane did not walk out on his country in Saipan he was sent home by a Yorkshire man who happened to be manager of his country.

Mick McCarthy served his country well and was a Celtic stalwart. Yorkshire man? Is this serious coming from a Mayo man? You of all people should have heard of a wee thing called emmigration and the Irish diaspora. Or were DeVelara, James Connolly and James Larkin just yanks, scotchies and scousers?

I think you'll find Mick McCarthy managed an Ireland team who just happened to include an awkward cork man.
