Leixlip's reputation of being Dubs

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

from playing football in kildare for the last 8 years i have come to the conclusion that there is a lot of divide and bitterness between north and south, particularly the south and leixlip! i think that south kildare people are either very sore losers or just very ignorant when it comes to local geography. i have this opinion because everywhere i go, sometimes playing & sometimes watching, i hear ridiculous things from players and supporters eg. 'go back to the city' and 'dublin scum'. are we supposed to be offended by these lame insults? im going to put this to bed once and for all... yes we are close to dublin but we are proud kildare people! just because we dont live down in the sticks like you, doesnt mean you're entitled to claim we're not true kildare men. we bleed white up here and have provided this county with some of its greatest players eg. Matt Goff, Ronan Quinn, Enda Murphy etc. I could just as easily claim Castledermot might as well play in Carlow or Athy might as well play in Laois. Its such bull**** and its time its put to bed once and for all!!!

Agreed with most of your post. Dislike towards north Kildare teams seems to spread to match officials also

just in reply to your comment about "WANNABE DUBS" if i remember correctly leixlip gaa club applied for a transfer of the club to the dublin league in the early 90's its obvious your not around this county long enough to remember this how and ever the evidence is quite clear to be seen to anyone who finds themselves in the unfortunate situation of being in leixlip village on the day of a dublin championship match that the village becomes a sea of blue dublin jerseys,i suggest you stop whinging, loose the dublin accents and start winning championships in KILDARE!!

I think it is very childish to call a Celbridge or Leixlip player a dub, I know from work and the GAA scene lots of people from north Kildare and they are as passionate about Kildare as someone from Newbridge, Kildare Town or Carbury. And they gave us some great players like Ronan Quinn, Brian Donovan, Enda Murphy, Karl Ennis and Brian Fahy to name but a few. This type of rubbish comments has crept into the club scene for quite a number of years now and its good to see the likes of Celbridge and Maynooth doing well as they might have players that can make the step up to play for Kildare, look at Hugh McGrillen last year, one of Kildares best players.

I'm a North Kildare player and I have been told to "go back to dublin " and have been called a Dub etc. It's not really a big deal though. It's more the ignorance of the individuals who make these comments. The divide between the north of the county and south does exist though. I'l be shouting for Maynooth despite being a local rival of theirs if you like. If they win they will be only the third Kildare club to win a Leinster club championship. The whole county should gget behined them but I think a few of the lads down south will not.

I think the point Daytona was making boogeyman was that you should get behind Maynooth, forget how many teams have won leinsters. Unfortunately, I think you may be one of the bitter men from the south boogeyman judging by the tone of your posts. Sad if that is the case. Surely we should all support Kildare regardless of which part of the county we are from.
trust me that Kildare people from the north of the county are every bit as passionate about Kildare, if not even more so, given the geographical location near to Dublin.
As for the people walking around north Kildare with Dubs jerseys you surely must have heard of the celtic tiger and people moving out of Dublin for to buy houses boogeyman????!!! It doesnt mean however that there is no Kildare people in the area. Have a think about it .........

I agree with Kilrush! There is a lot of divide and bitterness between north and south, particularly the south and leixlip/Celbridge. I've been playing football for years and I hear my own team mates shouting "Lets beat these Dublin *******" all the time. It is very childish! I have relations up in Leixlip that play for St.Marys and they are all very proud Kildare men like myself. I dont know where boogeyman is getting this thing of Leixlip village being a sea of blue on a day of a Dublin game?? Thats pure rubbish! Its like saying that Monasterevan is a sea of blue (Laois) or Ballymore Eustace is full of Wicklow jerseys on a match day.

im not trying to stir up things between north and south, god forbid it ends up like east and west clare, but south kildare people must now stop all this nonsense of dub insults once and for all. look at a map and you'll see where we're located... NORTH KILDARE!. leixlip, celbridge and maynooth are 3 proud kildare clubs and we'll leave it at that!!!

and as far as that RUMOUR about leixlip moving to dublin, my sources tell me that was Confey! i still cant confirm that tho. that wud be interesting to find out for definite.

Maybe it might help if ye didn't keep calling each other deco, anto, etc with thick Dublin accents. Even Divilly got called Divo and he's from Galway...

well boogeyman
first its "i suggest you stop whinging, loose the dublin accents and start winning championships in KILDARE" and then its
" by the way JJ blue jerseys with kildare accents nothin to do with the celtic tiger".Well which is it??

You're contradictions show you're more interested in getting a cheap shot on the lads from the north of the county rather than make a valid point. All you're doing is showing the ignorance of some people in the county who are more interested in where abouts in the county you are from, rather than getting behind our beloved lillies. And of course there is goin to be Dubs in Leixlip, its a commuter town, just like Navan has just as many Dubs these days than it does Royals. Its the same wit many towns around the capital,Grow up

I'm from the south and don't hold those views, but am aware of a minority who do. I also know a few guys from the north who will tell you there is no footballers or hurlers south of Newbridge and look down on ''rural'' clubs so the moral of my story is you get a few bigots everywhere, but that doesn't mean its a generally held view. As for the jerseys and flags you should come and visit Monasterevin when the dubs are playing, you'd think you were in Tallagh, the celtic tiger spread them everywhere
