The economy would collapse if Ireland won the world cup.

Pudders that question is braindead. All Ireland. This is a GAA forum mainly on the upcoming of GAA championship when in season. This belongs in the non gaa forum. I know that 5 or 10 lads will answer this post and say that I'm completely wrong but they are definitely in the wrong. The lads that say world cup have most likely never won an All Ireland recently and forget what it feels like. Although I am that young that I don't remember the 1996 All Ireland I live in hope that I will see Liam home in The Model County in the short term future

gaamad, we've more chance of winning the world cup than Liam or Sam hitting the Slaney.

Its not such a braindead question as rugby being a bigger sport than GAA in Ireland. And I had this arguement with a Dub, a Donegal and Kerry lad, all GAA mad in the pub and I was the only one who went for the All Ireland.

Once David Healy regains form the World Cup is a distinct possibility.

An all Ireland hurling title for Antrim however would be something else.

You could spend your days driving around EAST Tyrone waving the cup...................

world cup anyday. i would trade meaths 7 all irelands and 20 leinsters plus take the option to never win one again just for one world cup

if ireland won the world cup it would be the biggest achievment in world sport of all time due to our size. in the grand scheme of things the all-irelands a mickey mouse competition in comparison. i could gaurantee anyone who says the all-ireland here would be the same people out celebrating on streets and crying if ireland won the world cup once caught in the hysteria. even in italia 90 it meant so much more to the people than the all-ireland

once world cup time comes around and if ireland are in it EVERY town in the country will have bunting etc up. a lot more in the county than any all-ireland. it just doesnt get bigger than the world cup. the all-ireland is great for the county. but really whats a county. an administration area with invisible borders. this is the country we're talking about. now anyone saying they would rather their little area have success over the country together winning the biggest competition in the WORLD needs their head examined

i remember the 1999 all-ireland perfectly when meath won it. the feeling didnt even come close to what even being in the 2002 world cup meant. when spain beat ireland it was the only time i ever cried over sport.

To see Westmeath win an Ireland in any grade,Hurling or Football, would surpass anything else in sport for me.

Not even a contest would have to be a World cup. I have to laugh at all these respondents on here who think that they are Ireland's greatest patriots, yet selfishly would rather their own county win an All Ireland than their own country win the biggest sporting event in the world, it shouldn't even be a contest. Every year I hope and pray that the Galway hurlers might finally end 21 years of hurt, which inevitably ends with yet another quarter final defeat, but were you to offer me Galway winning the Liam Mc Carthy in 2010 or Ireland winning the World Cup in 2010, I would have to go with the World Cup. Kilkenny winning the Liam Mc Carthy this year or Kerry winning Sam barely registers outside of the two respective counties, whereas Ireland winning the World Cup would cause absolute mayhem in the entire country, with people singing and dancing on the streets for days upon end, not to mention the pride and feel good factor it would do for the nation.
