Which is the biggest club rivalry in Donegal?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I am not sure on this one. I feel as a Glenties man its either Ardara and Glenties or Eunans and Glenties but i think that Eunans and Glenties only go back a wee bit. As for Ardara Glenties it goes way back. But part from them which do you think is the biggest club rivalry in Donegal?

Used to think that Gaoth Dobhair and Dungloe had a big rivalry...in more modern times thin Gaoth Dobhair and Eunans, Eunans have never beaten them in a senior county final..elsewhere glenties ardara, termon and glenfin seem to come to light....

you know nothing Norman not even the Eunans team anyway Eunans beat gweedore in 48 and 1960 but Eunans biggest rivals was the South county team St.Josephs but Gweedore and Eunans were always the big north county rivals in leg and championship.

If I was giving a prize on this one it would go to Ardara and Glenties at present.

Eunans biggest rivals would be Westmeath clubs or Sligo clubs.

Sure half there team not even from Letterkenny way its 25000 population..Some disgrace..Poachers...I heard stag partys try to avoid it now for players getting poached on nights out..

And you may deny it but its true.. Disgrace to the young local boys kept outta the team by brennan, devenney, Big gulpin from W'meath etc. but to name a few....

Norman Norma Norman, whats the matter with ya. Did someone from Eunans do something on ya! I think its a bit harsh now going on about Eunans, people moved to Letterkenny for work and then its the most natural thing in the world is to play football. Eunans don't poach players players go there of their own accord. A few years back I can remember a TEAM trying to sign a player, he went of the name of Eamon Reddin! ring any bells?????? Maybe the keeper might shed some light on the subject! Poaching Players! now were talking Jim!

And on that matter, how many of the Glenties players were blowin's as you like to call them? I'm sure some of their parents moved to the town for work etc and then they grew up there. does that count as Blowin's?

Poor norman, did you not know Devenney went to school in Letterkenny too. Let's see how many more "blow-ins" you can name then ?? Who is your club ?? Oh, And how much did our boys beat you by ? You should get a chip for the other shoulder to balance yourself !!

sher aren't we all blow-ins from sometime or another. Why do so many posters have a go at eunans?
Obviously success breeds envy, but would that envy not spur people on to bettering their own teams rather than trying to belittle eunans achievements in recent years? Or maybe it's posters aren't having a go at eunans as a team/club but rather their supporters...thoughts???

Gweedore and Dungloe had a fierce rivalry in the past. Think its fairly quiet between them nowadays

Success does bread envy. But Eunans have been doing this even when they were not as successful as they are now.

There are many other players that the Eunans club have poached over the years.

Devenney went ot school in Letterkenny. So did Michael Murphy but it doesnt give u a devine right to poach them.
Brendan Kilcoyne from Sligo or something
Eugene McMenamin from Robert Emmets
JP Clarke from Newtown

Sure you could go on all day.

Play the locals. The blowins will leave when there finished playing and never do a thing for your club. And in the end this will affect our county.
Great to see young Mulhern get a game at the weekend.

Im not biased against Eunans but a line has to be drawn

Your obviously a missed informed person Norman but for the record we do have a few players who live here now and have a right to play with Eunans or the Gaels and there would be no Gaels team in our town if you had your way but I think your to blinded with hatred and begrudgery towards Eunans to have any cop on.Oh by the way do you happen to know that there are clubs in the County that former Eunans folk from the town are involved in or should they just leave them clubs and go back to their roots at Eunans to suit the likes of you.

Pointer Your right they do have a right to play with Gaels or Eunans. Gaels are in the same town. Have a great underage structure but you guys are poaching there best players...Thats a fact. Gaels are no longer a new up and coming club. THere about now 10-15 years. maybe more. So why if 2 teams from the same town cannot have an equality. One is number 1 in the county and the other is just about competing with your 4th team..Something not right there.. And yes its because of poaching. From the young fellas within the town to bringing in the outsiders as well..Gaels have alot of outsiders. More or less the full team but in there case its more about 15 lads getting a game. Its like playing astro turf..they turn up for games and all. As a county were going no where..football is at a very low standard. Players standing out for Eunans this year like McGowan and McClafferty. Eunans meant to be the best in the county (and they are) but these players are not county standard.

think the gaels actually only had about 2 or 3 out of town players in first team this year and maybe a few more in the reserves,
the majority of first team grew up in the twon:
Moore, Mulpeter, Harte, McGlynn, Hunter, Bradley, Stewart, Cannon, Daly, Gildea, Doherty, McGarrigle, Creevey * 2, O'Breslin and Christy Nee.
