NavyNBlue County: Dublin Posts: 198 480891 In the modern game, the majority of strikers will dive if they think they can con the ref into awarding a peno. Its up to the defenders to be smarter in the way that they tackle. Its a sad state of affairs when there is a lack of honesty in the game but thats the way its gone. We've had quite a few dives already this season, Ngog's being the latest but Lee Carsley didn't help his case by his silly lunging tackle in the box. Going in like that, regardless of whether he touch NGog or not meant that he was always running the risk of giving something away in a tight situation. NGog didn't have much other options than to dive. Had he stayed on his feet he would have probably been injured. Just got to be a bit smarter in the box Lee. Compare this to John Terry's tackle on Valencia. Stone wall peno from a slow motion reverse angle replay, but from the referees view there was not way he could give it. JT is one of the best jersey tuggers in the game, he nearly always makes it look like the foul is against him. Thanks to the english media love in with Mr England, referees will usually give him the benefit of the doubt too even though he gets away with a lot of media attention to his cheating habits. Ronaldo takes one of his usual spectacular dives and gets lambasted for it. JT can stamp on a guys leg or spit in a guys hair and no one makes much about it!! Soccer skills have developed beyond natural footballing talent, you also have to be a dab hand had conning referees too Most realistic post so far on the subject. Fair play to you. He wasnt touched but that was a silly tackle from Carsley! He was nowhere near the ball. He has a talent for giving away silly peno's and especially in a green shirt.

the video doesnt show there was no contact, just that it was unlikely. There is no concrete evidence that he dived.

Ah come on now Paddy no need to be like that!

I don't think the personal comments in your last post were anything to do with the subject of the thread. In future keep your petty personal comments to yourself.

Petty? I thought that was one of my better ones, nothing petty about it at all.

Sometimes I think, as I said on the Alex Ferguson thread, people take sport far too serious.

Sincere apologies Sam, it was an attempt at HUMOUR, although I am beginning to think humour disappeared from these pages years ago, with a few notable exceptions.
