125 greatest stars of GAA on Indo

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Thought it was disgraceful that Maurice Fitzgerald was only 33rd in the football, was expecting him to be in the top 3. Also the exclusion of Matty Forde and Declan Browne out of the whole 125 amazes me.

Dont have too many complaints with the hurling, though Eoin Larkin not included was a bit stupid.

Anyone else have any views on it?

Henry Shefflin no.1 is madness.

Ignore it. It is a completely pointless exercise undertaken in order to give underworked journalists something to do to keep them busy in the close season

Madness fred? bit ott? He would have to be minimum top 3 in 99% of books! Henry is the numero uno in my opinion.

The Biggest Injustice was leaving Peter Solan out, the greatest ever footballer to have come out of Mayo

For pure football skills, the greatest was Mick O'Connel of Kerry and for pure hurling skills it's Christy Ring of Cork. There are literally hundreds of other truly great players in both codes, but trying to put them in order of merit is a waste of time. Only newspapers can indulge in such speculation and hope to gain something out of it.......

the irish examiner is the only decent paper for GAA Monday to Saturday. The GAA is a priority with this paper and there is a supplement every monday during the championship. Its the only paper for serious coverage

yeah not impressed with the list at all. Declan Browne sticks out as one particular bad omission. yes I am from Tipp but not sure how a guy like him who wins 2 All Stars & scored that much over years can be overlooked. any time he did play on big stage he was unreal, Munster final 2002 & Donegal in Croke Park 2003. remember Darren Fay saying he was the toughest player he's ever marked after a league game once
argument could be that players from smaller counties didnt get in but Kevin O'Brien from Wicklow got in so I'm at a loss really.

agree with the previous guy the Examiner is much better for sport especially the GAA

Henry Shefflin is a fantastic hurler and a great guy but anybody that puts him ahead of Christy Ring either did not see Ring playing or should not be involved in choosing the list.Hard to pick out the best footballer over say the past 60 years but Ring stands head and shoulders above all rivals in the hurling world.
