Thats not a good lineup. Greg Bohan at No. 14 and Shane Maughan at no 11?Maughan is one of the best fll forwards in Galway and bohan is more suited to half back or half forward. Also why would you put Fiach O'Bearra,Galway minor in 2009,an out and out forward and superb creative player..at No.7??? and put Christian Lomboto a back who has only basic skills in the game (mainly defending) in midfield??? Also John doran in midfield sums it up. I cant see ye getting far this year!

Cucullainn makes 2 very valid points about Mary's , (1) no longer being a boarding school and (2) lads going to their local catchment school.

As a boarder, when I played in the dim and distant past , the training was ferocious with total dedication by team and training staff..... so much so that we all did lousy in our Leaving Cert in fateful year in 1960 when we could/ should have won the AllIreland colleges ! One of our coaches , Fr Christy Walshe RIP - a respected Rahoon man - had a motto for us : " pray hard , study hard, play hard"..... I guess we only applied the latter to our character building process.

Mary's was a good school and it was a privilege to spent 5 yerars there and get into the hurling team.

apologies ff. i accept that ye have a wider variety of sports but you can only prosper at one. your school has contributed an awful lot to galway football and im not bothered about what they do in other sports because this is a gaa website for gaa people. bradshaw etc-the latest generation of galway footballers are an outstanding achievement for your school but as regards the gaa development there is a huge gap and if its a mixed sports school marys wish to have then they are very good at that because it is not easy to combine many sports with education but if success is wanted then a more intense approach is needed to one sport. it is clear to see that both of our schools have fallen from our perches somewhat in the last few years with the loss of the boarding tradition and this in parallel to our counties demise. with regards the succes of clubs in marys cathcment area. st.michaels and james have had some fantastic minor teams backboned by marys players. but i do not accept salthills succes as marys credit, donnellan and sheridan not from salthill and armstrong an ex sjc man. best of luck this year ff

Nobody gets poached in secondary school, it's decision Armestong and his family made. And most importantly look at him now, his time in Jarlaths only made him a better footballer.

I was at St. Mary's in 1988 when the school won senior A Connacht titles in Football, hurling, soccer, basketball, cross-country running, and I think badminton. The soccer team went on to win the all-Ireland, even though most of the players were primarily hurlers and footballers who were just playing soccer for the crack. They also won all of the other connacht A football titles that year - first-year, juvenille and junior. It was a great school for sports, but not at the expense of academics - most of the teachers were excellent. I'm glad to hear Enda Mulrooney is teaching there now -I played alongside him on football teams from first year up. Best of luck to this year's teams. I would love to see Mary's win a hogan cup.

Heard rumblings today from a teacher in school that a student from Cliften cc and two st pats students in Ouhgteard are joining mary's to help them win the Hogan Cup for next year. Can anyone from either school confirm this? Are they good players

ah indeed marys123. I was talking to a prominent footballer and soccer players of the school, says i to him 'Would you rather win the Soccer Irish Cup or the Holy Grail of Irish College Football 'old Hogan himself' and says he to me, 'The soccer'! This really sums up Marys in the last few years with the 'towny boys' bringin a wealth of soccer ability to the school. Long gone are the days when the borders were the backbone of the football.
