Offaly v Meath

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I would describe the current Meath team as just about average, therefore Offaly have every chance of beating them that is if ye really want to.

Offaly by 4.

The last time Offaly played Meath in the championship,It was 2000 and Offaly won, also in 1997,Meath where the All-Ireland champions,Offaly where a dv4 team and Offaly one,so as an avid Meath fan we have to be very careful,we have a few important defenders missing from the heart of the defence..

Surely Offaly must be good things to give Meath a right hiding on Sunday, And the bookies have us at 3/1, that has to be availed off, offaly to win by ten points plus, you know it makes sense

Ten points have you seen offaly play the last three years they will be lucky if they score ten points on sunday
not a lone win bye ten. if they were to get a shock win it will be a point or two.

same rubbish as last year the two goals kept us in a game that we were bet hands down everywhere .
i wonder how long it will be now for some of the players want cribbin out thats what they do after they get
a football lesson blame the manger. they got rid of richie connor and look what they have done since they have
been a laughing stock of leinster football for the last three year's now. as kevin Mcstay would say offaly football is in
a bad place at the moment .

Offaly/Meath "Game"

guys that was pathetic, one of the worse games I ever looked at. Meath were playing with you guys for most of the 1st half and when they upped their game they were different class. Sheridan and the free taker were excellent for them and Sheridan took your defender to the cleaners, you lost out big time in the middle of the park and McManus is finished. Mcnamee is over rated and didnt want to know yesterday. I think we will take Meath, we will not do offaly on it and Lie down, MJ and Ross will cause all sorts of problems and Quiggers will give the Meath guys plenty of it in the middle. I have to add Portlaoise was in tip top condition yesterday. Adios Amigos.

"As for you Jinksie,
Meath to win by 8
Offaly to be physically out muscled around the field
Cant say who will score first
We have a poor back line, we have some reasonable forwards, (by the way Jim, will Nialler be fit to start?).
No real grounds for optimism this year and the beating by Louth has left me disillusioned with the scene, however I will support the team over in Portlaoise next Sunday as I believe we have limited talent at the moment and the lads are doing their best. But there will be only around a couple of thousand their from "The Faithful" despite it being on our doorstep! "

Well, sorry to say I got it fairly spot on. Our backs were even worse than I thought, free taking shockin, poor discipline from Coughlan. Dont think the players will be looking for anyones head especially Cribbins. Whats the solution? I think personally clubs and more to the point club players need to seriously look at what they are contributing to this shambles. Are we saying that there are no better backs in the county than the 2 Sullivans and Brady? In fact better than all our backs?
I dont blame these players, these are the guys that have committed to play for Offaly, and I assume they are the best of the bunch that has committed to making the effort. There was no pace in our backline whatsoever and thats the starting point for any county defender.

As for forwards and free taking this is a farce altogether, has cost us in so many games over the last 10 years.
I believe clubs need to look at what they are doing to encourage players to develope, and the quality of coaches/ plus the money being paid to these coaches.
How are players being nurtured from minor to adult grades? What I do know is that the clubs are struggling financially, and for help from volunteers, and a way to properly develope football in the county needs to be uniformly rolled out across the clubs, and encourage more players to continue playing to adult level, and improve the quality of coaching.
Since 2007 we have only beaten Carlow, (no disrespect to them!)
In the 2009 & 2010 leagues we have not won a game away from home.

Our support base has gone into hiding, do people give a toss? Well do ye?

There's hope for the future. If Darby had his shooting boots on we would have been well up at half time and then it would have been interesting. It will be intersting to see how Meath will do against Dublin (yes i am discounting Laois as Meath will hockey them as well). Also well done to the minors. 6th Leinster semi in a row. Congrats to all invloved

Commisserations to Offaly, but Meath proved last year that they are the top team in Leinster. Good Luck in the Qualifiers.

George name the better backs than the 2 Sullivans and Brady? Thats the problem with this county, everyone is willing to criticise but no-one is coming up with any solutions.

hardluck lads. we were better but not by 10 points. the sending off cost you at least 5 points so that kinda killed the contest. good luck in the qualifiers.

CuriousGeorge, to answer your question...no, I personally don't give a toss. I can't remember the last time I saw the footballers play well. The amount of money I have wasted looking at that crowd getting hidings, it's gone beyond a joke. The hurlers might not be world beaters but they won't show us up, they can hurl.

Can you see us winning a qualifier game? Maybe if we get Carlow or Clare in Tullamore...when was the last time Offaly took a big scalp in the championship?
Against Meath in 2000 was it? All these managers that got the sack must be having a good laugh...
