Comórtas peile- does anyone really care anymore???

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

was at the match between micheal breathnachs and barna at the weekend. both teams had just about enough for a team. barna i think had only 16. two went off injured one lad sent off and i think they played most of the second half with 13 men. seemed to me that no one really cared. i don't recall hearing any irish from the barna team which begs the question why they are in such a tournament. the tournament was originally founded to bring irish speaking teams from around ireland together once a year. i'm not picking on barna but there are alot of other teams around the county who participate who speak little or no irish during games.
i honestly think, and correct me if i'm wrong, does any team actually want to win the galway tournament this year as the finals are in donegal. travelling to such finals bears a huge expense on the clubs. i might be wrong but i think the comortas peile has lost alot of its appeal and its GAEILGE in recent years. its a huge pity because it has huge potential as an spideal showed a few years back when hosting the finals. eventhough the weather did top off a fantastic weekend

Congrats go an SPIDEAL, Go maith, Bhuail sibh Micheall Breathnach inniu i gComortos Peile na Gaeltachta..... Your Junior team really put up a great show against the Seinor A team of na Breathna!
Now I know the Breathna sent their real team playing a CHALLENGE game somewhere else.....
I know most of the Breathna INTERMEADIATE team was not available for selection!
What is confusing me is.... Who exactly did you beat? Were they wearing blue and white? Were they speaking IRISH on the pitch? You certainly werent! You think yee could try to come up with the cupla focal for COMORTAS PEILE! I mean your IRISH would have to be as good as your ENGLISH!

Anyway, when you see the Top Club in the CONNEMARA GAELTACHT putting out their THIRD team against their arch rivals, then it is time to scrap this COMORTAS

if na breathnaigh have no respect for the competition then they should not be allowed to enter next year. and it doesn't matter how you look at it they were beaten by a junior team.

Ba chóir na foirne seo a leanas a fhágáil sa Chomortas Peile. Naomh Anna, An Cheathrú Rua, Ml Breathnach, An Spidéal, Maigh Cuilinn, An Fháirche, Carna, Na Piarsaigh, Oileán Árainn. Is sampla breá do cheantar imeallach Gaeltachta le polasaí breá Gaeilge ná Maigh Cuilinn . Tá suim breá againn sa Chomortas ar an gCeathrú Rua agus beidh fad agus atá sé ann.

i think JJ from inverin is back under the disguise of sammy the bull. i hear the management of MB had to tell him him to stop posting rubbish on this site. i might be wrong. JJ was very fond of the ould capital letters!!!
also i think its an absolute disgrace if MB did send out an extremely weakened team in the comortas.

You are wrong, I am not JJ..but I do know him...and you can be sure of one thing..no one would tell him to do anything, he didin't want to do!

Fíor Ghael: Maith an fear. Tá suim breá againn sa Chomortas i Ros Muc freisin.
Bhi me ar pairc Ml Breathnachi 1992 no 95?? Bhi an chomortas peile ann. Bhi an bua ag Beal Atha'n Ghaorthaidh son Comortas Soisear. Bhi Sean o Driscoll ag caoin. Fear a bua 2 all-Ireland. Bhi suim ag an fear sin ann.

Ba chóir na foirne seo a leanas a fhágáil sa Chomortas Peile???
Naomh Anna, An Cheathrú Rua, Ml Breathnach, An Spidéal, Maigh Cuilinn, An Fháirche, Carna, Na Piarsaigh, Oileán Árainn.

No Barna, no Renvile, no Claregalway, (i'll ask this question in English) What do these clubs think of this?
I was at the under 16 final last year between Naomh Anna and Claregalway. Not a word in english said by the Naomh Anna team and not a word of Irish said by the Claregalway team.

dear SAMMYTHEBULL.
apologies about the mistaken identity and i will rephrase my last post. i hear that some members of the MB club "asked" JJ to stop posting to the forum due to the animosity towards MB he was causing.
and also in his defence the old forum was very open to abuse as there was no accountability. so maybe it wasn't JJ all the time just others signing off under his guise. its about time the hoganstand changed their forum!!

To Starie 1975:

As a Clargealway player I agree we should be making more of an effort to speak in Irish as part of the Gaeltacht. A lot of the parish are proud to be part of the gaeltacht and are fluent speakers, but it just isn't the day-by-day language of the huge majority of the population and so even when there are fluent speakers playing football it doesn't make sense for them to be speaking as Gaeilge and not being understood. I think the comortas is a great way of improving the Irish of the area, and some of the new ideas and initiatives being put into use for the u-17 comortas this year will certainly do that. They're excellent ideas, and if we want to improve the Irish of the clubs then promoting the language amongst the younger players is what's needed, not kickin them out of the competition.

rosmuc won it a few years back and at least half the team couldn't speak a word of isish cause they were from recess and cashel so should they be kicked out as well i think so

Thank you, Fearruanua, Apology accepted... refreshing to to see somebody being polite!
And you are right, the old system was being abused.... And half the messages JJ supposedly sent in was not from JJ.. He wrote in to the website about this a few weeks ago!
Anyway as the website is safe now...and the cowards wont be able to pretend they are somebody else, he might start writing again.
And by the way MB is not my Club, and the only reason I described them as the top team in the Gaeltacht is because of their leauge standing! I agree Carraroe have achieved a great deal, including a County championship. And Moycullen, last year...what a wonderful year they had, in the Intermeadiate. Carna-Cashel reaching a County Final a few years ago, a great achievement... but I am sure the MB club are very happy with their achievements in the last few years also.
