Its not a bad 15/20 but after that it is fairly poor but that's what you'd expect really. Its only an early season panel though so no doubt there'll be changes before the championship gets going.

cummins has defo proved that he can pose a serious scoring threat he practically dragged claragalway to senior a on his own this year and good knows what he'll for galway playing with lads who can pass the ball, and is colin forde not just back from a long term injury? and gaffney has to regarded as a surprising and puzzlesome inclusion

Im very much confused with this U21 Management how can lads who went to America for summer Tomy Walsh, keith kelly, John O Brien,John Ryan all went away who saw them play out there because what football they played when they back waas poor,Ithink there will a few goin and more joining up with this panel, its a bit early for gathering a panel togrther, sure the club U21 CHAMP NOT STARTING UNTILL LATE JANUARY.

I'll agree Danny Cummins is a quiet good footballer but I can not for the life of me see how he is on the senior panel! Some of the backs that have been selected come as a surprise for me as I think they've just been picked on their name and having been on the Minor Team from '07. My own Club mate Cairan Blake was over looked and not saying he deserved to be picked but he's just as good as most of them backs. Jamie Burke?? Since winning the minor what standard of football has he played? Blake has been playing senior for two years...

The Forwards look good and can only look to get better as Steede and Eric Monahan just to name a few have all been left out. Don't agree with Puff Daddy as I seen gafney score 4 goals against us on his senior debut.

Tommy Walsh is supposed to be carrying a few extra pounds according to friends who were at the trails but he has until March to get into shape so wouldn't worry about him.

GAAGAA86 is it your belief that nobody playing Intermediate or Junior football should be chosen on U-21 panel?

GAAGAA86,was Blake marking Gaffney when he scored the 4 goals against ye!!!!!!( just wondering and kidding!)
Lads this is a preliminary panel, not a done deal.Anyone who were involved in that glorious minor win are entitled to have a go with the u-21s.Time will tell whether they are good enough now for it.There has to be new blood in the panel too,and I am willing to trust Alan Mulholland to get it right,he did when they were minor.Every club on the county could make a case for a clubman's inclusion, but how biased are they?Dont lampoon some guys picked on initial panel just cos you mightn't know them or what 'standard' they play at!! Mulholland obviously picked them cos he does know.

Mulholland has nothing to prove so i would trust his judgement. However what about Stiofán Ó Brian & Colm Mac Donnacha playing excellent senior football for Carraroe at the moment. Sean Denver was on the minor panel in 2007, Pat Mark is playing superb football for Naomh Anna albeit as an impact but that is some impact he is making, Sean Ó Conghaile is almost unmarkable in Junior A at the moment for na Piarsaigh. Tommy Walsh made it and he wasn't even making the renveyle team 4 months ago.

What was this team judged on though? Brian Moran has been injured for claregalway for last few months so how has he impressed anyone ? David Hansberry doesnt even start for his club ? Aongus Tierney,Sean Gavin,Nathan Gavin and Rory Gaffney are all unknown lads ? I dunno i just find that the team has been built on either reputation or ''who u know'' ? anyone else agree ?

for a start tommy walsh wasnt in the states in the summer so not sure where you got that from, plus its only an early panel yet and mullholland wil know in the cumn months if players are good enough or not, ther will be a lot of changes come championship time

G.McCarthy

I'd say somehow, this is just a quest tho but i'd imagne he picked it on what he seen at the trials

Fairly obvious Mulholland picked this team on who performed at the trials..And thats how it should be..if panels are not picked from trials whats the point having trials at all.

I think its a good mix, granted there may e a few changes by championship but i think it s def strong enough to win connaught at least.

Being on the county minor panel doesn't mean you are good enough for the u21.
Saying a member of the All Ireland winning minors should be on it is completley wrong, it is 3year gap a player may get better or still be good enough but others can go back or lose interest and others may have been lucky to make it before. Also calling players unkonwn because you haven't seen them play or don't rate them as highly. Clearly like machoman said players are picked through performances in the trials.

sure i wouldn't expect a milltown man to see how a stylish and classy forward is on the county panel and sure hasn't jaime burke been one of james' best players for this year and last year and completely shut down a proven intercounty forward in the county final this year.

that shows how much u rate the leitir moir centre forward....if your bragging about jamie burke(who fouled him for the whole game) cleaning him....ahhhhh well doesnt matter really as jamie burke was on the losing side...

HILLSON do you work in immigration? Who cares if these young lads went to the States for the summer. Have a look at fixtures for the summer month, chances are they missed **** all matches. The county board do nothing at all to help clubs keep players during the summer.

Best of luck to all the lads picked, looks like selection was based on performance at trials which could be a first for a Galway team.

G. McCarthy Moran has been there or there abouts since he was 17 playing senior for claregalway, ya maybe he was injured i ddin't know that but surely seen as he's been playing senior for the last few seasons he has the experience to bring to under 21 team as well as that he's definitely got the ability and surely this will only improve for future inter county football. Gavin was playing senior for his club as was Gaffney who i would also imagine has an extermely high level of fitness from a season with mervue, Tierney is a very accomplished footballer and i can't see how he wasn't on the minor team 3 years ago and he still has a year underage.

Seen Tommy Walsch playing JUNIOR C (!) against the aran islands a few times in the past months and in my opinion was in no way good enough to warrant a place on this team. Several teams from the West, Spiddal, Piarsaigh and Aran Islands, have a lot of better young players who may have been overlooked, and certain players like the aforementioned picked because of who they are?
