Blackrock beat Aherlow 11 points to 9 today in a very tough battle in Lattin. A really windy didn't help hurling conditions on a pitch pretty wet from rain in the last few days... Aherlow took the lead and there was nothing between the teams all game. Blacrock didn't lead til midway thru the 2nd half. Aherlow had a man sent off around the same time, a pretty stupid tackle earning the midfielder a 2nd yellow card. The ref in general was very poor but this was one decision he simply couldn't get wrong. Blackrock had a lot of the play 1st half, but didn't make the most of the ball played into the forwards. Dave Moloney drove them on from midfield, and the strenghth and skill of Simon Hennessy at half forward got the Rockies a few useful scores from play. Blackrock hit 5 or 6 wides in the 2nd half and had to dig deep to see off Aherlow. Blackrock's defence didn't give up too many scores from play and the class of Richie McCarthy told in the end when he won lots of ball around midfield and half forward, got scores from play, knocked over a few frees and set up the clinching point for Barry Shaughnessy.

Blackrock had a reputation as a team of young skilful hurlers who could be outbattled by a strong physical team on a slow mucky pitch but that's exactly what they encountered today and it's a great credit to them for showing the ability and coolness under pressure to close out a tight match

Well done to South Liberties, Doiglas might have been better hurlers but Liberties wanted it more and their persistance won out in the end. A great result for Limerick hurling with Limerick's first Munster intermediate championship. Hopefully Liberties can go all the way now.

Congrats to South Liberties! And Mount collins! One in the bag for Limerick and 2 munster finals still to be played! Hope Mount Collins get there! Rockies win yesterday was amazing for our club and for the 1st time this year a team tried to bully them on the pitch with severalinfam bad hits from Aherlow players off the ball using the hurley! Lads stood up to this and hurling won out in the end! Had the honour of listening to Effin'' Eddie maroneys commentary from the man himself all through the match! Its truly an experience!

I DONT SEE TO MANY COMMENTS ABOUT LIBERTIES FAILURE TO WIN FINALS, 2 TITLES ALREADY THIS YEAR. THERE IS GREAT HEART IN THAT SQUAD, MANY OTHER TEAMS WOULD HAVE GAVE UP.

Fantastic day for lmk yesterday. South Libs were 4/1 to win and pulled it off against all the odds. 2 pts down at half time playin against a gale and they still came away with the victory. Well done boys. As for Mountcollins. Winning a game in that manner only a day and a half after also playin extra time in the county final is something else. And there's probably a few lads involved again tonight in allaghaun's 21's hurling semi final. Some boys back west! Anyone know who's training them cos he's obviously got them in great shape And the Rockies!! Aherlow tried to batter, bully and out fight our lads (some very cynical off the ball blows) but they overcame all that to show that they've got the heart, determination, discipline and bucketloads of talent to overcome whatever was fired at them. Gritty display in awful conditions and even though i shouldn't single out any individuals you've gotta hand it to Richie Mac and davy and brian moloney who really got going when the chips were down in the last 10 mins. Cheers to shane o'neill by the way for his comments re blackrock in his interview on 95fm after the game iin mallow. As if it needs to be said, everybody in Ardpatrick and Kilfinane hope both yerselves and mountcollins go all the way.

South Liberties 2-10 Douglas 1-12 - Liberites are Munster IH Champions! Cashmans bookmakers in Cork had Douglas at 1/7 with Liberties at 4/1!!!! At the excellent Mallow grounds yesterday South Liberties defied the odds and captured the IHC crown, the first for a Limerick club. Dromin Athlacca had lost to Kildangan in '04 & Clonlara in '07 but it was 3rd time lucky for Limerick yesterday. Played before a crowd of over 2,000 supporters and with Douglas electing to play into the breeze in the first half the game was fairly open and even in the first half. Rory O'Neill and Eoin Cadogan had been flown back from their travels and ended up marking each other as teams traded early scores to leave it level after 22mins at 0-4 each. Indeed had Douglas converted any of the three clear first half goal chances then they could have easily been out of sight at half time. Instead, their eagerness to try and walk the ball into the net meant that Albert Shanahan did even need to save to prevent a score with the Libs full back line of Tony Carroll, Niall Shanahan & Shane Garry propelling their advances. 2 points in the final 5 mins of the 1st half by Douglas of which 5 of their forwards hit the score sheet and Libs replying with one point, left the ht score at 0-7 to 0-5 in favour of the Cork side. What was to follow was not in the script, Douglas were left waiting on the pitch upon the resumption, in the cold and biting wind. Liberties appeared after a few prompts for ref Seamus Roche(Tipp) but more importantly with two personal changes which were to prove a master stroke in playing against the 2nd half wind. Eamonn O'Connell came on and went to corner back, releasing Shane Garry to midfield in place of William Hickey, Derek(or was it Andrew?) Grimes came in at corner forward instead of Colum Godfrey. A positional change saw David O'Neill move to centre forward with his brother Rory moving into the corner. One would have expected Douglas to step on the gas but with the Libs half back line of Shane O'Neill, Mark Keane and Thomas Ryan excelling and with Mike Keane & Garry fighting for every ball at midfield this meant Douglas had to change from their sweet hurling to fight it out physically, which ultimately they lost this battle too. Liberties tactic of running with the ball and driving low balls into their forwards was in contrast to Douglas who didn't seem to know how to play with the breeze especially at the final third. The excellent Colin O'Mahony at midfield and Eoin Cadogan were providing plenty ammunition for their forwards but the just could not pull away on the scoreboard.

South Liberties 2-10 Douglas 1-12 - Liberites are Munster IH Champions! Continued.... With 20mins into the second half it was Doulglas who were ahead 0-10 to 0-7, but when David O'Neill did what Douglas couldn't do and goaled after 20mins it was game on and for the first time the crowd sensed that a upset was on the cards. Again, Douglas wasted a golden opportunity when the much heralded full forward Mark Harrington blasted over a penalty it was another goal scoring opportunity wasted. It did put them ahead albeit briefly as Mark Keane pointed from a free. A wide from either side put everyone on the edge of their seats as we entered the last 5 mins of normal time deadlocked at 0-11 to 1-8. Keane again pointed a free and again Douglas leveled from play, Brian Slattery pointed in the 30th minute to set up a grandstand finale. A fairly innocuous attack from Libs ended with goalkeeper Brian Boyle dropping the ball when he could have easily cleared and Slattery swept the ball to the net from 14yrds. With just one mins of the 2 mins of injury time to be played a goal from Marc Collins put the minimum between the teams as we entered the last few seconds. With the puck out landing in the middle of the pitch, between a bunch of players and with the ball not emerging in the tussle the final whistle was blown and ecstatic scenes of jubilation from Liberties players and supporters ensued. Liberties are making up for previous county disappointments and now face St Gabriels in London on Sun 13th Dec in the ¼ final, with the winners meeting Kilkenny kingpins St. Lachtains who defeated Carlow senior champions Mount Leinster Rangers 1-8 to 0-7 yesterday to capture the Leinster title, this is scheduled for Sun 24th Jan.
