Right Breffni, this is the way I see it. Paddyogall stated that O' Hara was a better midfielder than Cavanagh, when both were in their prime. Ulsterman then laughed Paddyogall out of it. Trucker then came in and gave back-up and reasoning to Paddyogall's post, stating that if O' Hara had played in a better overall team (like Cavanagh does) then O' Hara would be talked about in the same breath as Cavanagh is now. Trucker then finished with this quote:
I think Cavanagh is a bit better but not a huge amount better but for anyone to "laugh" at O Hara clearly does not know their football or has not seen him play.
Here Trucker is pulling Ulsterman up for his reply to Paddyogall on O' Hara/Cavanagh.
Only after this point does Trucker mention Peter Canavan.
You then jumped in, just to have a swipe at Paddyogall, by claiming that Paddy would call Trucker a "dilusional (sic) nordie". In my opinion, Trucker is not taking sides with either Paddyogall or Ulsterman. He lies between the two extremes. One that thinks O' Hara is up there with the likes of Cavanagh, while also praising Canavan as one of the greats. Paddyogall and Ulsterman are different sides of the fence, and it seems with your dislike of Paddyogall that you're choosing Ulsterman's side of the fence.
By disagreeing with Ulsterman, I'm on his side of the extreme? Not sure how you are working this out triona?
I agree with everything trucker (sorry for draggin you into this!) said, so should I not be the same side as he/she is?
Paddy and Ulsterman, whatever about their previous', have expressed opinions which I disagreed with. Paddy's was more disagreeable as he has brought in the whole nordie thing. Paddy's opinion on Canavan/Fitzgerald is expressly north/south related - "dilusional nordie". He's more than entitled to have the opinion that Fitzgerald is far better than Canavan, as much as Ulsterman can think that Cavanagh is far better than O'Hara. I disagree with both of them to the extent that I think there is little to separate them, much like trucker.
I can't work out how you think I'm choosing Ulsterman's side of the fence?
THe crux of the argument is paddys "dilusional nordie" post. THat post has been proven wrong by several posts in this thread. You should be objecting to that instead taking me to task for some harmless opinions on footballers. I can accept that I probably shouldn't have taken a swipe at Paddy but I strongly disagreed with him doing his usual nordie-bashing and undermining Peter Canavans rightful legendary status with his "dilusional nordie" post.
my personal favourite was Seamus Moynihan who had the lot and knew how to survive at the highest level despite injuries having taken their toll on him. His displayes against Galway in 2000 were unreal. A true quiet leader and definite future manager of Kerry.
