Tape around wrists?

As a number of posters have said it is to strengthens the wrists when tackling and Armagh brought it in.

It protects players wrists in impact sports. Its comes in helpful - especially when you block a shot in football.

I heard a different story regarding the tape.

A county team last year employed a sports psychologist before the Championship started. One of the motivational techniques was that each player would tape their wrist, and then write a motivational quote on the tape. That way it would constantly be with them as a reminder.

Seems bull to me, which makes me believe it's just the sort of trype that a sports psychologist would actaully come out with!

Don't know what sporting benefit any of these like fashion techniques bring? Jeez all ya need are boots, shorts, socks and the jersey on your back.

Mayo did that in 04, wearing red wristbands.
The Galway hurlers started writing on their hands last year.

I tape the wrists and some at the ankle where it joins the navy boot.
