Damien Fitzhenry definitely the best - he had/has everything including his penalties. Kilkenny stopped trying for goals against Wexford at one time because if they got past the backs they found him almost impossible. Cummins was good but was basically a shot stopper. One day in Croker against Kilkenny he made numerous saves but each time the ball still ended up in the net and the Cats got 5 or 6 goals the same day. As a result he got an All Star which was totally wrong as Damien had had a fabulous year and should have got it. However there are serious problems/biases associated with the All Star system and they certainly showed up that year!!! Ollie Walsh was brilliant to watch and was class. However Noel Shehan was most reliable and I would place him ahead of all except Fitzy. lochgarmanabu (Wexford) - Posts: 1022 - 30/10/2009 12:18:19 470697 Link 0 |

Not sure if he was the best but Martin Furlong was definately the bravest goalkeeper! jacko123 (Offaly) - Posts: 36 - 30/10/2009 15:38:27 470975 Link 0 |

One day in Croker against Kilkenny he made numerous saves Yes, he made four saves on the one play before Tommy Walsh scored. I could never have done that. Mind you, I wouldn't have dropped the easy catch that led to all of this in the first place. In short, Cummings was a good one on one stopper, but not as good as others currently playing, especially Fitzhenry. patrique (Antrim) - Posts: 13709 - 30/10/2009 21:15:49 471375 Link 0 |
Cluxton seems to be getting a lot of votes. I would concur. Cluxton is the greatest all round keeper in the history of football, Cunningham in hurling Mikeynora (Limerick) - Posts: 888 - 03/11/2009 15:29:40 474072 Link 0 |
I know it will be regarded as bias but I would rate Cluxton as the most agile and best shot stopper I've ever seen NavyNBlue (Dublin) - Posts: 1357 - 03/11/2009 16:52:47 474173 Link 0 |
