The Sage County: Monaghan Posts: 214 469248 On the subject of great Goalkeepers... Given that our Dublin friends (players & supporters alike) get so much abuse on here, it is worth noting the extraordinarily high standard of Dublin's net minders over the last 35 years or so (which is all I can comment on) In Paddy Cullen, John O'Leary and Stephen Cluxton, they have produced 3 goalkeepers who would be ranked with and probably ahead of the best from any county over that or any period, and as far as I can recall (and I'm open to correction as always) these 3, along with 1 other (by the name of Byrne for a couple of years only) have represented the county in that position in championship football for that entire time. Again an outstanding achievement by any standards. There is no doubt that the Dubs have had deficiencies in other department that has prevented them wining more AIs but why so strong in the goalkeeping department. Your spot on their lad. we really have been blessed with Class Goalies! ConnollyDub (Dublin) - Posts: 2007 - 29/10/2009 12:42:33 469595 Link 0 |
