Regarding individual ability Dublin are not that far behind Kerry. Almost any team in the country would chop a limb off to have players like Cluxton, Henry, Cahill, Whelan, the Brogans or Cullen available for selection.

What's always left me perplexed about Dublin selections is that for a county championhship composed of roughly eighty clubs the vast majority seem to be picked from a small clique of roughly eight clubs. And even within these elite clubs there exists the added competition of 'blow-in' country footballers who are already at senior level thanks to their schooling back home. How many promising, young Dublin footballers hit a glass ceiling of sorts at big clubs like Crokes or Na Fianna?

Looking back at succesful Meath teams of the past, they were built on the foundations of lads who never played senior in their life. Admittedly though, we only have about seventy clubs to trawl through for players.

Procreation might be another useful long-term strategy.

lads, i think, this idea that they havent picked the best footballers in dublin because no one from lower divisions is on the team, for me anyway, is totally wide of the mark. firstly saying tyrone have intermediate players on the team is true, but you have to factor in that the particular players since 11 years old have been playing top school, university, county minor, under 21 so they have been playing at the top level basicially their whole life and are 100% aclimatised to that level. the reason i say this is asking someone who has been playing junior for years to jump to county standard for me is nearly impossible unless given a few years. the difference between junior and inter is big, but even goin to senior club football is a massive step never mind croker on a hot july day. i agree with people that players could be good enough, but they need time to adjust to the level expected, but isnt that what the development squad is about. 60ish men training away from all clubs to get to the level needed. players need to stand out hugely in the lower leagues and they are given their chance with the development squad and upcoming trials. Also saying young potential dublin players get lost in big clubs isnt true either, if they were good enough to be dublin players they would go straight to senior club from minor and they would get on the team. it is afterall dublin....historically the second best team in ireland, if players are not good enough for their club senior team they are most definitely not good enough for dublin. only the very very best should be in the panel. I know there is a thread already but i would ask anyone who really knows dublin football to tell me who is missing from the squad. i've seen alot of good players that are not on it but i really dont think i have come accross anyone yet who i would have left the field thinkin that they are a glaring omission, brigids keeper Supple apart.
