Snufalufagus County: Dublin Posts: 1833 465434 Used to think to myself: "Wonder what the Shinty boys think of Ireland field third rate players?" but then I noticed that the Scots field players from third rate clubs too! These Shinty players are from clubs that are not near the top Highland level!! Regards, Snufalufagus....Laochra Gael Nonsense, unlike the Irish team the Scots have plenty of players from their top level. Players like Ross, Innes and Campbell are stars of their game. You have to remember shinty is not as big as hurling, it is largely played in the highlands and is well behind soccer and rugby as a sport in Scotland.

it was a good game to watch and should be promoted more - but what was with the very short goalposts swinging around in the wind!

In my somewhat biased opinion the rules restrict us alot more than the Shinty players. It is also a very dull compromise. Hurling would lose all excitement and speed if you couldn't carry the ball in hand!

the harps are of course a gaa club. we set up the shinty team as there was no one to play camogie locally. The girls won the scottish championship last year and reached the final this year.

It;s a shame the gaa don't spend money on promoting this as there are stronger cultural reasons why should and it is way ahead of the annual Ireland V Australia wrestling match

Watched the game on Saturday, and thought it was great, with some good belts going in. The "oars" that the Scots use would give you some skelp, I'd say. Mullaney did Laois proud with his tackle at the end and Walsh was up to his normal level of aggro on the pitch.

I think it should be promoted more and will take it in next time its on here.

If I'm remembering right on one of the GAA 125 shows recently there was an oul fella who said that Mick Mackey ruined hurling because he invented the solo. The shinty matches remind me of hurling from the 60s, all ash and no hands. I think the rules show how many of the first-time hurling skills have been lost because players can take it in the hand.

Here's JBM showing how it should be done. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wy82T5FiMPI
