I remember very clearly a couple of months ago that this forum was over-loaded with threads refering to the strength of Ulster football. Well after 2 Munster teams competing in the AI Final and a total of 12 All Stars being awarded to Munster players, surely know people will appreciate that Munster is the strongest province in Ireland and that in fact Ulster is not as strong as many deluded people think!!!!!!!! Any Thoughts As To Why Munster Football Is So Strong At The Moment? Ciarrai Abu (Overseas) - Posts: 1050 - 21/10/2009 11:33:46 461336 Link 0 |

It's currently the strongest province alright... no question about it. jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20763 - 21/10/2009 11:55:42 461373 Link 0 |
3inarow - I fail to understand why you would not want to discuss it! Do you honestly think that if an Ulster team had won the AI this year there fans would not be on here letting everyone know about the strength of there county! I will continue to remind people that Kerry are the greatest team of this decade whether you like it or not! Ciarrai Abu (Overseas) - Posts: 1050 - 21/10/2009 11:56:08 461374 Link 0 |
We are not the force we once were. Its time to drop ROG, get Warwick to 10 and Dougie to 15. Mikeynora (Limerick) - Posts: 888 - 21/10/2009 11:57:36 461377 Link 0 |
Ciarrai Abu - I know we're the strongest football county. This decade and most other decades. You don't need to remind me. 3inarow08 (Kerry) - Posts: 2455 - 21/10/2009 12:02:59 461383 Link 0 |
Sorry to state the obvious, but is it not simply the case that Munster has two of the three strongest teams in the country and the rest are nowhere? Hence the 'supposed' strength of Munster. After Cork and Kerry, there isn't much else. I know Tipp are in div 2 of the NFL, but since when has the NFL been a decent guide on the Championship? If it was, Derry would have challenged far more often than they have. I expect much vitriol now from fans of Munster counties, but there you go. I can be somewhat more subjective on this topic. Munster have got two good counties who have a chance of winning the All-Ireland every year. Ulster almost has more strong counties than Munster has actual counties CiarraiAbú. Maybe not all of us watched the same championship this year but mediocre Longford, Sligo and indeed Antrim sides caused big problems for Kerry. One kick of a ball vs. Sligo and Kerry were out, if the penalty had of been scored would we be discussing this?. I can accept that in All-Ireland titles Kerry are team of the decade without doubt but how many times did you beat Tyrone? Spillane throughout the championship, "Kerry are a dying wasp". Then he burst out of the traps whenever Tyrone got beat by Cork and Kerry won to laud the Kingdom for being the best team of the decade, I suppose that's what you're all like down there. 3INAROW - I understand what you are saying but this sort of mentality has been introduced into football in recent years as a result of some Northern fans, therefore i will give as good as i get!!! Ciarrai Abu! Ciarrai Abu (Overseas) - Posts: 1050 - 21/10/2009 12:42:11 461459 Link 0 |

munster has two outstanding teams in cork and kerry , but da rest are rubbbish. on d other hand ulster has 4-5 very gud sides: tyrone, armagh , donegal, monaghan and maybe down at a push. no point being bitter at ulster teams like spillane . . philbrown (Westmeath) - Posts: 237 - 21/10/2009 13:36:52 461547 Link 0 |
i think it can be argued either way. yes cork and kerry have competed in 2 of the last 3 finals and yes this kerry team is amazing but i think the ulster football championship is far more competitive and more exciting to watch. similiar to munster hurling a great championship but killkenny are by far a stronger team than any munster team Tomcork (Cork) - Posts: 112 - 21/10/2009 14:25:34 461624 Link 0 |

Given Limerick's performance in the Munster final, it's hardly fair to suggest that Munster has only two teams is it? Likewise Tipp seem to be making progress. but, is Munster the new Ulster? Not yet, but it could be getting more competitive. Culchie (Cork) - Posts: 799 - 21/10/2009 15:37:38 461732 Link 0 |
