Punishment for Cavan Gaels??

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Standing in Breffini Park yesterday I had to think which sport i was actually watching. GAA or WWE wrestling. The ridiculous antics that were on display really left a sour taste in my mouth. A team which believed they would be out played by pure football went out and tried to bully their way into the next round. I brought my son to the game and was disgusted by the behaviour of certain players on the pitch. Although it was not all one sided as in takes two to tango their was severe intimidation by the Cavan players. A player kicking the ball at a referre and not getting sent off. Did his reputation proceed him or am I just out of touch these days. Was a disgraceful afternoons display and I want those players who over stepped the line to face the full letter of the law. Ban them

gaels get it too easy in cavan, and every year when its put up against them by quality teams in ulster their indisciplin comes out, i wasnt at the game but when i heard they had four men sent off i could've guessed who they were, its a shame to see our county champions behave like this but unsurprising, sad that the standard of football in cavan will be judged on this perfomance, hopefully lavey and butlersbridge will represent cavan better in their ulster campaigns

Was'nt at the game but have spoken to a few people who were.
Their view is the game was tough and conditions bad but that the REF totally lost the run of himself - 22 yellow cards - 4 reds etc. Though must admit have'nt spoken to any Antrim lads

i didnt think that the gaels went out to bully st galls, as for your pure football?? it was the same handpassing backwards rubbish as nearly every other club in ulster, gaels included which gave us a rotten game, half the players couldnt pass or catch the ball consistantly. The red cards were deserved and seanie johnston should have waked aswel, but you can understand the anger towards the referee from the players. Can you honestly tell me that the gaels keeper wasnt fouled at least three times in his small rectangle? And Im not a gaels man im from a neighbouuring club who are rivals so dont start, im just being honest.

Referees stand there week in week out get abuse from all angles and are far from perfect. To have a football kicked at one and an assult on one is disgraceful. Is it accepted these days that a wrong decision should be punished through the use of the fist or violence of any kind. As for St.Galls being over rated as a member of a rival club they are anything but. A quality tean with quality players dragged into a dog fight and came out winning. sign of a good team

Dont worry kdog15 this is a regular thing for cavan club teams and not a one off as suggested by a cavan lad here!

Last year their intermediate champions Ballinagh made a disgrace of themselves (ask the poor umpires) when they took on Dublins 'Fingal Ravens'! There is a trend here!

kdog15, a few questions.1. Punishment for the referee?.
Is it accepted these days that a wrong decision should be punished through the use of the fist or violence of any kind
2.when was the last time you saw a referee punished for consistently making wrong decisions?now, the way the gaels acted yday was wrong, but the way the ref refed the match was also wrong.the gaels will get their punishment, but what will happen to the ref?
A team which believed they would be out played by pure football went out and tried to bully their way into the next round.
3.who won last year despite the other team having insider info on the other team?
and finally no.4. you seriously think all those missed frees and easy shots were the sign of a good team?20 wides in 70 minutes,is a disgrace, and i seriously hope you take back that comment about galls being a quality team yesterday.

Inconsistent refereeing as the 4 sent off were all from Cavan even though both teams were at fault. The Galls are no angels either !!

that was 2 years ago snuff, and how many times have that team been in the paper for indiscipline?can you name any other incidents involving other cavan clubs?were you at the match yesterday to make a fair assessment of what happened?or maybe your just going by the fact that 4 players were sent off, without knowing any more.

I have watched st galls all year and my assesment is a quality team. Yesterday was a dog fight not a match. Poor quality on show with the weather and cavan gaels tactic of spoiling the games. Referrees are impartial why would they favour a team over another. They dont make a bad call on purpose. No-one is perfect

Ah, just like last year, St Gall's destroyed this team, but racked up the wides.

When they feel challenged they can improve on that.

Their record proceeds them. They have a great panel of players all ireland finalists in the last five years. Second to Crossmaglen for Ulster team of the decade and I am not a fan of the club. Credit where credits due

the big changing point in the game was the penalty to st. galls.......it was no penalty....he was tackled in the small square which is not allowed....and i think if the goalkeeper is pulled up for overcarrying in the square, is it not a 13 yard free??????.....the ref was very one sided......fermanagh ref i beleive.....

Ah, the ref was from the same COUNTRY as St Gall's. Maybe a neutral ref from Spain or somewhere would have been better.

St Gall's hit 20 wides, were 6 points down, and still won.

Last year they hit 114 wides, and lost.

Getting there.

And I HATE St Gall's, got us all arrested one night and took to the Kesh so they could claim the points. About 1972, or thereabouts.

But all is fair in love and war.

I was right behind the goal - the goalkeeper received the ball in the centre - took one step to the left - then came back taking 2 steps to the right - he was then shoulder charged into the post - whistle blows - free out I thought - Totally wrong decision !

This changed the whole pattern of the game

Cheasty was goaded and mauled immediately after - the ref did nothing again - Totally wrong decision !

I wonder was this game recorded ? I guess not.
These 2 incidents really tore the arse out of any chance Cavan Gaels had !

This is very similar to another penalty decision going against a Gaels team recently and Cavan Gaels can really feel that the Gods are conspiring against them. If they can learn to keep a lid on it and accept that this is just a part of the game - sickening as it is - they can achieve the coveted Ulster title and more

What about the All-Ireland final - most tight games are decided by something unexpected

I thought Lyng's play for the goal needs to happen alot more - that threat needs to be there all the time - Johnstone was way below par - If he was on par he wouldn't be giving out - he was nowhere near the performance he put in against Graham Canty when Cavan beat Cork one winter's day.

Just to reiterate - The ref could have come from 6 other counties - What's the criteria for ref selection ?

Bit extreme there bout the kesh. Hard times must of been hard up for points. The G.A.A should clamp down on these cavan so called super stars. stars in their own constalations. Idols for some school boys. seeing their hero trying to injury a referree. Role model i think not. Sean kelly is the perfect role model for any school boy. Great football, keeps himself to himself and he plays a fair clean game
