our hopes mainly rest on 2 big situations. to keep stephen ireland out of the squad because he will ruin the team structure i think. top class player all the same but the chemistry will be ruined. and that given dunne and keane rise to the occasion as they are the most influentual players on that team but this might be there last internationl; tournament definite last world cup together.

Patrique im in full agreement with you. Northern Ireland are 4 places ahead of Ireland in the rankings. Ireland would be confident they would beat NI with ease. So they shouldnt be afraid of France just because they are ranked in the top 10. Its good to have our neighbouring countryman's support going into these play offs.

Apparently Ribery is set to miss the play offs due to a knee injury would be a huge boost for us if this happens, Kilbane will be able to sleep at night from now on happy days.

I was having visions of Kilbane having to be taken off after Ribery's runs made him dizzy... He will be a huge miss to France. Unfortunately, I still think they will have enough in reserve to make it through

On paper France have a very good team, the likes of Sagna, Gallas, Abidal and Evra in defence and just in front of them, one of the best holding midfielders in the world Toulalan - heir to Makelele. They will be very hard to score against, hard to see either Whelan or Andrews having the football in them to outwit Toulalan. Going forward, they have plenty of options, Malouda, Govou and Diarra and up front they can choose from Benzema, Henry and Anelka. Lots of goals in those players so its a blessing for us that Ribery is out! Who have Ireland got? Well nothing to match those names for sure. But for all that, France have not been lighting up world football of late and this game won't be played on paper. I presume the away goal rule will decide these games if aggregrate can't so I think Ireland's best bet is to try and keep France scoreless in Croke Park, if we concede an away goal, then we are chasing the thing. I'd settle for a 0-0 draw and then in the second leg, you wouldn't know what could happen. France haven't been scoring a lot in the group stages so they're not going to be banging in the goals. A 1-1 draw in France would put Ireland through and it only takes a mad moment or a lucky break for us to get that goal. Still, you'd have to fancy France especially with Toulalan there. He'll be at the heart of everything and we have nobody to match him.

I think that only three people are left in there with a chance of predicting the correct score Cavan-Slasher,PiggyMalone and Legan4Life

I always knew that Cavan_slasher is no slow dozer when it comes to soccer!

Here's hoping for a 1-0 away win followed by penalties. Shay Given can do us Ulstermen proud!

With a bit of luck it will be 2-0 to France.
You want to get a load of 2FM this morning.
There all on it, Dunphy included.

Its a shame the same hype cannot be generated when a big game is on.
You know the ones i am on about.

The sooner its over the better.

Lads/Lases, they did not seed these games so that Ireland would win.

Think about it.

Look at the date on that post.

I hate being right all the time, but, told you.
