''redhand'' omagh have the best youth system by far, but when there players get to senior level there not as strong as they were underage. they have won most underage titles in the last 10 years but haven't progressed this on into senior level.

Which teams have spent the longest time in Division 1, that would be a reflection on the best clubs. Any parish has players that are good for a period of time and with natural demographics have less capable players at other times. Any club which has maintained this high status over time would have to be considered. In that regard, the likes of Carrickmore, Dromore, Errigal etc. have to be considered. Has anyone any stats on that (consecutive time in division 1)?

On the other hand maybe the best club is the club which has managed to survive under the toughest circumstances. Dromore/Carrickmore would never have any bother fielding 2 teams or even 3. My vote would go to Aghaloo, who have remained compeditive in spite of having only a hundred or so families to select players from. I always feel that it so right that when the all-irelands come back to Tyrone, a club like Aghaloo is first to welcome them back.

I'm Sorry gentle men......

Why can greencastle not be voted as an ideal club. Greencastle are an isolated club with limited members as oppsosed to the 'other' big clubs.

They cater for their community and is the focal point of every family on every sunday of the playing season. Lets not forget they where a junior club no less than 3-4 years ago and won a clean sweep of championship's - Tyrone, Ulster and all Ireland.

They have a great social club all funded by the local people and cater for all elements of the GAA men and women. Not to mention the greencastle run on Boxing day.

In my humble opinion, Greencastle is a great club and not disimilar from my own club which caters for its immediate community even though we have not won as many honours.

Sadly the soccer type mentality displayed by Omagh juveniles last night symptomatic of the attitude throughout the club. No class at all with their whooping and hollering after scores as they hammered Cookstown. What's with all the waving to the crowd after scores? Pathetic- must have been reading the reissues of Roy of the Rovers.

Sorry Mick, Roy Race never waved to the crowd. He was much more modest than that.

Carrickmore has its faults like every other club but we do try to promote the games and culture as much as possible but we'll not blow out trumpet (or tin whistle) abiut it. To clarify carrickmore had a rounders team this year and complete it various events in Scor; have a traditional music group and run courses in the irish language.

What about Dromore?

On the go since 1933, one of the longest suviving sides of division 1. Scor/Hurling/Football. A priest who is the clubs biggest fan after having been a priest in Trillick for many years - that is some conversion. Banned from competition in Tyrone in their early days but won their league in Fermanagh whilst in exile. One of a small elite who have won both the hurling and football senior championship. One of the most promiant town grounds in Tyrone. You won't drive into Dromore without knowing what sport is the heartbeat of the town with their 3rd pitch highly elevated above road level. County players putting their worth back into the club with the likes of Ricey spending his weekends coaching the next generation of footballers. The Paul Mc Girr fund running activities to support poor and needy abroad and working hand in hand with the fields of hope charity for a number of their activities such as the 10k. A club which does not castigate those who are involved in other sports. A club whose players are involved in other sports put the dromore club first, Colm McCullagh one such example. One of the best supported club lottos in the county and a website that is updated properly www.dromoregfc.com. On the morning of todays championship match, the cancellation of that game has been published.

Rahilly_Man,

There was certainly no inter-team hugging after the championship final last year:) Clonoe disappeared completly off the radar this year, what happened? Surely the loss of Damien Cassidy was not that significant? Dromore lost Noel McGinn after the Clonoe game but were able to come back stronger. At the end of the day the players are more important than the manager and with the scalps Clonoe took last year, surely more should have been expected league/championship this year??

Some good points on this topic. I don't think you can judge a team by how long they have been in div 1 or not. They are big clubs and have the numbers to choose from when fielding teams. I think it's the smaller clubs you need to look at. They have been able to promote the GAA through good and bad times. They are the heart of the community when nothing much else is going on. When my club got to the All Ireland Junior Final we had 7 or 8 sets of brothers on the squad. The buzz around the community ( even though we were beat ) showed what the GAA is about. There might not always be success but the pride of playing for your club and community.

you're right there john boss this year was dissapointing given the heights reached last year but a combination of factors contributed, yes the loss of Damien Cassidy was a huge blow he's a top class manager arite as we all know. we simply didnt perform against Trillick and that in no way is taking away from their victory it was totally deserved. after that eight established players got offers to cross the big pond to the U S of A and with the recession etc. no one could blame them for going, its a credit to the players that came in that we finished 5th in the league given the loss of players and i dont think too many other clubs could cope with such circumstances. in relation to your reference to Noel McGinn, i've no axe to grind there he gave me plenty of pleasure when playing his socks off in our beloved county jersey and every man can make a mistake, i'm no different. still dont think he's on a par with Mr Cassidy though in the managerial stakes.

but i still stick with my original post, its the attitude of their supporters that leaves alot to be desired.. u me or them are no different we cant win all the time.
