I read recently somewhere that the rules state that alcohol is not permitted in the seated area in Croke Park. 3inarow08 (Kerry) - Posts: 2455 - 15/10/2009 17:20:02 455615 Link 0 |

Alcohol is part of modern day sport whether we like it or not. Without the sponsorship of the drinks companies AND the corporate sector much sport would go to the wall. Furthermore drink is a MAJOR part of Premium/Private Boxes in Croke Park and other stadiums around the world and that should be extended to the ordinary people in the ground. FACT is that most of us who go to Croker like a jar and we are going to buy it if it's out of the ground or in it so why shouldn't the GAA take advantage of this? I have made the same arguement about corporate entertainment in Scottish football grounds, booze is banned in the ground EXCEPT for the beautiful people. The hypocrisy is astounding, the powers that be say that the masses shouldn't have a drink in the grounds BUT those with a few quid who can afford the expensive seats can? RIDICULOUS AND CLASS DRIVEN! Ulsterman (Antrim) - Posts: 9817 - 16/10/2009 01:44:34 456136 Link 0 |
Dell - What the hell is what happened years ago re gaa clubs, night clubs and sponsorship got to do with drinking in Croke park? RAM85 (Westmeath) - Posts: 978 - 16/10/2009 07:32:23 456158 Link 0 |

you are right Ulsterman. The usual bores are always banging on about the Guiness sponsering the All ireland hurling - but you never hear a dickey bird about the Heineken cup - the goys of course can be trusted not to get plastered / smash the place up etc - the hypocracy is stunning! jos33 (Dublin) - Posts: 243 - 16/10/2009 09:45:12 456199 Link 0 |
There should be no alcohol allowed other than in the boxes. watching (Tyrone) - Posts: 853 - 16/10/2009 09:51:43 456205 Link 0 |
The GAA are hypocrites when it comes to this, they implemented an alcohol and substance abuse policy to tackle the problem of alcohol abuse within the Gaa community pushing in with all the clubs with in ireland encouraging them to stop jerseys etc being sponsored by bars and also to stop having club functions in bars etc, then when you land into croker they are more than happy to sell you as much beer as you drink just to get your money off you fiannablue (Tyrone) - Posts: 326 - 16/10/2009 09:58:20 456209 Link 0 |
The rule in Croke Park are the same for whatever area you are in. You cannot bring drink into the "viewing" areas of the ground. It's not a Croke Park decision, it's dictated to them by the Gardai for safety reasons. black&white (Sligo) - Posts: 1628 - 16/10/2009 10:08:03 456220 Link 0 |
I don't understand why you cant bring the beer up to the seating area in Croke Park. A year ago I went to a soccer match in Hamburg - similar set up to Croke Park, 60000 fans , bars , hot dogs etc. I asked the steward if I could bring my beer up to the seat as the match was started - she looked at me in amazement and said "why not"? The Germans generally behave themselves and are trusted to do so - if you do really want to throw your lovely Pils larger on the pitch there are some serious looking genlemen in bombrer jackets ready to turf you out. The GAA should trust the fans more, we are not animals! jos33 (Dublin) - Posts: 243 - 16/10/2009 10:31:22 456248 Link 0 |
Jos, why would you need to drink at a match? You are only there for under two hours so unless you have a serious problem there is plenty of time before and after. Having said that and to prove what a hypocrite I am I did enjoy having a beer and a hotdog watching the Yankees! Although you are there for over three hours in fairness. hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 16/10/2009 10:45:40 456259 Link 0 |

No alcoholic drink in County or Club Grounds at all. Just go to watch the games instead of running around acting like drunken idiots. Down_man94 (Down) - Posts: 90 - 16/10/2009 10:49:52 456262 Link 0 |
Why do the Gardai dictate that you can drink alcohol at a rugby match in Croke Park, but you can't at a GAA match? Lebowski (Meath) - Posts: 363 - 16/10/2009 10:56:42 456270 Link 0 |
If there was drink for sale in all areas of Croke park would the Dubs be in on time for matches? RAM85 (Westmeath) - Posts: 978 - 16/10/2009 10:59:50 456272 Link 0 |
Jos, after watching the Kerry match I think morphine would be more appropriate than alcohol! hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 16/10/2009 11:18:29 456293 Link 0 |
Id say the Westmeath fans could have done with a few pints one particular sunday last July jos33 (Dublin) - Posts: 243 - 16/10/2009 11:21:52 456298 Link 0 |
I'd say Westmeath fans would have appreciated a drink during the Dublin game this year Ram NavyNBlue (Dublin) - Posts: 1357 - 16/10/2009 11:22:04 456299 Link 0 |
