League D-Day Predictions - Sunday 18th October

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Predictions for Sunday 18th October 2009 at 3.30pm (Final Round) SFL1 Roslea v Derrygonnelly - Roslea's will get their revenge by whacking the pubbers even if they haven't Quigley - Roslea 5pts win Tempo v St.Joseph's - The wee men from Ederney are surviving by a thread and will Tempo partying this weekend end they might just sneak a draw to stay up but as I revealed exclusively on hoganstand, Ederney will have lost a few of their known players. Devenish v Belcoo - The 'league sliders' Belcoo will be no match for the near neighbours Devenish. The humpty dumpties will be knocked of the wall by a strong set of Melvin players. 6 or 7pts win to Devenish. St.Patrick's v Newtownbutler - Donagh are yesterday's men as they are better suited to div2. Newtown win by 3 or 4pts. Donagh relegated!! Teemore v Enniskillen - The hillbillies got hammered last week so I think they will be putty in Gaels hands as the townies will fight tooth and nail to stay up. Gaels win by 3pts. SLF2 Final Erne Gaels v Lisnaskea - As I predicted last week Belleek will win in the replay!

Thanks for predicting a win for us (Erne Gaels).
I don't believe your prediction that the townies will see off Teemore or that Newtown will beat Donagh or that Ederney will survive by a draw.

3 out of 7 right last week, on these predictions you will be getting less right this week.

Wins for Teemore, St Joes, Roslea, St Pats, Belcoo & Skea.

coa_gael you are getting very cheeky annd your club is barely 5 mins playing senior and all of a sudden you think that you are master of the county. A reality check for you lad is to remember Coa won a DIV3 final, the lowest of the lowest and finished 3rd from the bottom.
As for the outcome of Sunday games I still stick to my hunch and that is that the Enniskillen Gaels will be playing in division1 next season.

Ah yes the legendary gaels club bigshots...the creme de la creme of the social scene in Enniskillen.

Although it maybe amusing, I am of the opinion that it is very demeaning to any club to be nick-named on such a public forum. I would therefore ask IrvinesownGael to please refrain from this type of messaging. Thank you.

In reply to YesterdaysMan my response is simple when other stop calling us the shams then I might consider your request but is there any real harm in a bit of banter?

at least come up with some names that make sense...

eg
derrygonnelly.. how can you call them the pubbers? if anything ederney have a bigger drinking culture as well as other clubs
teemore.. there are more backward spots like derrygonnelly or adrumsee
belcoo.. why would they be humpty dumpties.. they have not been a yoyo team like kinawley, b'boro or tempo in recent years.

Fermfave you must be speaking from experience when you refer to youre own club Ederney - shot yourself in the foot there Finny!!! I created some of the nicknames after much thinking however many have been there for decades. Derrygonnelly were chosen to be known as the pubbers through their 2nd junior team who were in fact sourced directly from the pub. The players regular associated with the pub as a meeting place to discuss footie tactics has further reinforced the 1970s nickname - long before I was born!!! The Roslea coboys was an easy one as it was well known as banit country during the troubles and since the sherriff had no control they inherited the appropriate name 'the cowboys' which they are proud of. Many say that the club sheriff has lost control - hence the Quigley saga again!!! Kinawley are the clockers or clocklanders since they invested in installing a fancy clock at their pitch instead of investing in their players hence becoming the longest club in history (nearly eighty years) to get to and achieve something at senior division one level!! Ederney are call the wee men simply because to are largely small in stature having as many would say not got as much milk!!! Teemore are known for years as the hillbillies for well known reasons and this explanation from the online encyclopedia,Wikipedia sums them up... "A Hillbilly is a term referring to people who dwell in rural, mountainous areas. The term is also used in celebration of their culture by mountain people themselves. The definition explains that "a Hill-Billie is a free citizen, who lives in the hills, has no means to speak of, dresses as he can, talks as he pleases, drinks whiskey when he gets it, and fires off his revolver as the fancy takes him." The term Humpty Dumpty has been associated will Belcoo for donkeys and reflects how they have sat on the wall not knowing whether they were going to fall season after season. Again Wikipedia gives a good info the subject and you will see how the description through a well known rhyme fits Belcoo... "Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. All the king's horses, And all the king's men, Couldn't put Humpty together again The rhyme does not actually state that Humpty Dumpty is an egg." In its first full printed form in 1810, the rhyme is posed as a riddle and exploits for misdirection the fact that "humpty dumpty" was also eighteenth-century reduplicative slang for a short and clumsy person. The riddle may depend on the assumption that, whereas a clumsy person falling off a wall might not be irreparably damaged, an egg would be.The rhyme is no longer posed as a riddle, since the answer is now so well known." For health & Safety reasons they are now only permitted to SLIDE rather than fall!!!! I could go on and on...buts that's enough for now.

Bit rich to hear the the overfed Sham Gael talking of Belcoo sliding when in fact his own club is at the bottom of div2.
We all remember them not winning a game when in the 1st division last.
As for their fancy ground it had up the score of a game played 30 years ago still on its old wooden scoreboard till recently, but i see they have recently invested in....
wait for it ......

a scoreboard with a clock.
Pot belly calling the kettle black springs to mind !

Would Division 2 football not be the revival of the Gaels?

They need to blood younger players like Belcoo/Garrison/Tempo

Division 2 could be a platform for them to do that. The kinawley captain said in his sppech after the intermediate final that people may slag off intermediate championships but there are 3 championships in Fermanagh, they have 1 and are competing in Ulster!! Would clubs like Donagh, Teemore and newtown say to an Ulster run, whether it be in intermediate!!! It could benefit the gaels for the future,

however

the gaels will stay up, but they need to blood younger players to survive the tough period ahead
