(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

We are just so close now, if we qualify expect an almighty buzz around Ireland. It has the potential to be bigger then Italia 90' in this country, given the way the country is, we will take what we get and run with it. THE PLAYERS NEED THIS, THE FANS NEEDS THIS, THE COUNTRY NEEDS THIS.

''Never never never say no, Ireland Ireland, Republic of Ireland, rev it up and here we goo''.

Used to have a tape with all the songs! I remember the above. Anyone remember this one (to the tune of Billy Joel's "We didn't start the fire")

"We didn't start the fire, we had Jack to mind us and the fans behind us" - that's how I think it went anyway!

And sure who could forget the greatest song of all time, Put 'em Under Pressure!

3inarow - The memories recorded it. Great band in their day. Saw them in the harriers in Tullamore
a few times and the Phoenix in Kinnegad and the Beehive in the middle of nowhere.

I also had a tape full of Irish football songs. One of the songs was based on the song "The Deck of Cards" another song had a line in it "Mamma Mia, Mamma Mia, whata beautiful fans, not the lager louts, but the ones who sing and dance" I think i knew every song word for word.

Ram85, thanks for that. I'll have to see if they're still around!

Breff, ya something like that. Doubt we'd have had the money to go out and buy tapes during the late eighties/early nineties (call it whatever decade you will depending on Ralf's interpretation of time). Probably saved a load of tokens or stamps from some shop! I have a similar memory. I was in the under 8s and I remember playing the tape and the father driving a jeep load of us to a football match. Them were the days.

And lads, if ye ever want to hear Put 'em Under Pressure in a nightclub, head to Coppers in Dublin. Most nights I'm there they play it. Always gets me and a few of the boys going on the dancefloor!

I hope not, the standard of football was appalling, and that was the entire tournament.

I know the standard wasnt great but we did not care. Great 1-1 victories over England and Holland. Penalty shoot out over Romania. It was our first world cup and we enjoyed it.In early to watch matches in Portobello and then on to Rathmines Inn who had live bands then.Wasnt sober for a month.Lucky we had a bit of childrens allowance or our one child at the time would have been taken into care.Only joking about that.

I remember Dunphy slating the Irish performance after the Egypt game. I didnt see it as i was in Clones at the Donegal v Derry Ulster Semi Final. All the older men on the bus were in the pub for ages and we just roamed around the street eating burgers from chip vans.

Hope they draw Russia and get beat 10-0, home and away.

Then they can go crawling again to Roy. "Please Roy, come and save us".
