British Money paid for Tyrone's titles

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Do any of you southerners ever listen to yourselves? do you ever just sit down and look in the mirror and say to yourself...'jesus but i am so unbelieveably petty'.

Why cant you just accept and be happy for a fellow counties farily moderate success, rather than try to belittle it at every oportunity.

I'm not sure how I feel about this lad. Do I feel sorry for him in trying to rise people with such bitter commentary? Is it self promotion but what on earth would he be promoting except under achievement or mediocrity?

Or maybe I am puzzled by the outright inaccuracies and lies in his comments. The money received comes from Central Council and fundraising like all other counties and clubs. Some money comes from the NI sports council too I imagine which is as much an Irish organisation as anything else given that it is populated by Irish in NI too and serves the interests of Irish people living and working in NI too.

So all in all a very very sad publicity stunt by a sub standard goal keeper, that got knocked out of the championship by Louth and now pedals his bitter thoughts in the mighty Westmeath junior league!! He must feel shockin stupid!

Says it all really...

O'Gall and David at it again. Paddy as your such an expert. Will you tell me how much land down the West coast is owned by titled people in London? Sure you could build loads of GAA pitches with the ground rent paid over the years.

We do pay a lot of tax up here and are therefore very grateful to our sports and culture minister for any funding he so wisely and graciously gives us!

At least we've now heard of the Roscommon Champion. I wonder what's the reason for the lack of success of the other counties in Ulster in either code?

hold on a minute, so what is being said here is that nationalists in the north shouldnt take any money or funding from the british government for anything or else we are basically confirming ourselves to be british?

for gods sake catch yourselves on here, look nationalists/republicans in the occupyed six are not voluntarily under british rule, we didnt ask them to be here or to be governing our community but unfortuneatly that is the way it is right now and will be for the forseeable future. We have to make do with what we have got and to be honest, when taking everything we have been put through up here over the past century into account, do you not think that we deserve to be reeping some rewards.

if we didnt accept the funding that was available to us from the government which is governing us, then we wouldnt have any housing benefits, any housing finance, any education finance, no health provision and no public jobs.

Please could this guy, and any of the rest of you fellas looking down on us nordies from your ivory towers think before you speak!

Sports Minister Nelson McCausland is appearing in a Tyrone GAA Christmas Pantomime to be held in the leisure Centre in Omagh to raise more money for the county.

He is playing the Fairy Godmother.

It has always been thus.

"Money has played a significant part in the development to which Tyrone and to a lesser extent Armagh have made to the modern game."

Why would it be any different for Tyrone than the rest of the six counties?

That is the big question, makes one wonder.

I believe our Northern friends are a credit to whats good about being Irish, and they have done mighty well to make sure theres even Gaelic games in that part of the world. They may seem bitter, but are in fact driven at promoting our cause and fair due's to your success, and if we had the same courageous balls down south, we migh become a better nation and my county might even win an All Ireland!

This is nothing new everyone knows the Ulster Council have being getting huge amounts of money from the British and Irish Govermeny for years..............Maybe the way to sort it out would be to have a cap on it............Let Ulster claim their grants from the uk ....if the amounts are less than what other proviences get here maybe the Irish goverment should top them up to the same amount...

I wish all this extra coin had bought Down some success over the past 15 years. Shane get yourself a union jack and hoist it over that wee castle in roscommon town and you never know, the rossies could win sam next year.

We all knew this already!!!! No one has had the bottle to come out and say it before and once again it is evident these Tyrone folk dont like being told the bare facts of the matter! Another example of this is when they are told that Kerry ARE the team of the decade ;) !

why should we not get money from the Brits? we are forced to pay our taxes to them, the least they can do is give the organisation that they victimise during the war a bit back.

Excellent post jimbodub. If he regards us as british then why is he not complaining when we are spending our british money in Croke Park!!? Surely by his logic british money helped pay for it therefoer it is getting funded by the Irish and the british!! Simples.

I think a lot of people afre missing the point here. Shane Curran never called anyone British. He is merely pointing out the fact that the counties in the north receive funding from both the british and Irish govrnments. Which is an unfair advantage. In 2005 Joe Brolly wrote an Artcile in the Irish news that the technical Brillance of Tyrone was all due to the Good Friday agreement. His reasoning was that in the wake of the agreement, money was being doled out to community projects on both sides of the divide like snuff at a wake. Apparently, the Tyrone County Board were in for their share like a light and on the back of the goodies from Stormont, had developed an underage coaching setup that was second to none. Joe went on to state that Armagh and Derry were next in line at developing a solid coaching structure and providing facilities for underage players and probably the three other Northern teams would get in on the act in time. Now Joe Brolly is a bit more reputable then Shane Curran. All we want is a level playing field

"Curran insists that the extra funding has given northern counties a distinct advantage over their southern counterparts in terms of preparation, and that their success has little to do with ability."

aye, success has little to do with our ability...right then curran.
