Hurling team of South Galway
Players from following clubs only would be regarded as South Galway:
Ardrahan, Beagh,Ballinderreen, Beagh, Clarinbridge, Craughwell, Gort, Kilbeacanty, Kinvara, St Thomas'.
In fairness theres some strong clubs there.

Nominees for panel as follows:
Ardrahan: P Holland, J O'Leary, I Tannian, C Callanan (GK), S Kennedy, D Kennedy, D Shaughnessy, G Hennelly, J Greene
Ballinderreen: C Coen, C Meehan, Sean Coen, Shane Coen, K Coen, B Coen, K Carr
Beagh : K Diviney, A Diviney, J Gantley, B Gantley, K Keehan, R Gantley
Clarinbridge: A Kerins, M Kerins, D Forde, B Burke, E Forde, B Daly, L Donoghue, P Callanan, S Burke, D Donoghue
Craughwell: A Ryan (GK), F Healy, N Healy, A Cullinane, N Callanan
Gort: P Cummins (GK), O Fahy, S Og Linnane, A Harte, R Cummins, T Linnane, P Killalae, G Quinn, A Coen, M McMahon
Kilbeacanty: S Lambert?
Kinvara: C Callanan (GK), S Kavanagh, C Kavanagh, J Kavanagh, G Mahon, D Huban, A Leech
St Thomas's: R Murray, D Burke, K Burke, D Cooney

Let me know what ye think but this was just picked off the top of my head and know I've obviously left lads out. Seems like I left Thomases and Craughwell short but I dont think theres other C'well lads you'd pick and the Thomases lads Im thinkin of are all young and not sure how they progressed this year to be honest. I know some will argue Beagh should have more but Im not so sure any more would warrant a call up there. And I just realised theres 62 players there.

My first attempt at a team:

C Callanan Kinvara

J O'Leary Ardrahan
G Mahon Kinvara
C Meehan Ballinderreen

C Coen Ballinderreen
S Kavanagh Kinvara
A Cullinane Craughwell

R Murray St Thomas'
E Forde Clarinbridge

A Kerins Clarinbridge
A Harte Gort
F Healy Craughwell

Shane Coen Ballinderreen
I Tannian Ardrahan
N Healy Craughwell

Now to wait for the abuse!...

Portumna and Tommies are more south than all those clubs you have named except for Gort and Beagh and maybe Kilbeacanty, sorry but its a bit of a stupid argument!

The clubs named were the ones in the old South Board Championship. Portumna and Tommies would be regarded as east galway

very good idea and post. I for one being an exile would like to see a similiar for east galway.

In fairness to the.pundit, he was only including those clubs that would originally formed the old South Board - Portumna and Larkins were in East Board i think.
As regards the team itself - interesting - a tough one to pick.
Years ago (pre'75) there used to be a competition between the four old boards, with a team picked from each. How about that as a way for our county management to get the ball rolling this coming year? Have a round robin system giving each selection three games with top two in final? Now they might be games worth going to.
Might get slated for such an idea, but not the worse idea. It would be great for neighbouring clubs to be fighting for each other and not against! Could be done for charity (now that might soften some of ye!).

You left a fair few out of that team, a lot of Gort lads wouldn't be happy, Andy Coen came on in the senior game against Cork and Lally Regan and Linnane were on the u-21 panel. That said next sunday could change a lot. David Kennedy; Ardrahan, Mark Keirns and theres a good few more who could be up there

True - but I had Andy Coen, both Linnanes, Kerins and Kennedy on the panel. Forgot Regan and Lally. Andy Coen would probably warrant a place on the starting team ahead of the others mentioned. Then Regan.

I am from the football side of the county but would the Northern teams be then Athenry, Sarsfields, Killimordaly, Turloughmore, Castlegar, Liam Mellowes, Abbeyknockmoy, Rahoon Newcastle, Moycullen, Pearses and the Eastern teams be Portumna, Tommy Larkins, Abbey-Duniry, Cappataggle, Kilnadeema-Leitrim, Meelick Eyrecourt, Loughrea, Mullagh, Kiltormer and Killimor? Where is the boundary between these regions?

As far as i know i think the likes of Castlegar and Liam Mellows and other city clubs formed the West Board, that obviously went as far as Clifden.

Those are THE 9 south galway clubs listed above. Good effort on picking the team though one change I would definately make is Ciaran Callanan from Ardrahan should be in goal. He is the best goalie in the county and should have been on the senior team over the last 7/8 yrs, though some people may think that a bit controversal, and hasnt been chosen as he is percieved to have a bad attitude.

Cant say I agree with your team Pigeon. Ger Mahon/I Tannion have done nothing this year to justify selection. Eoin Forde is extremely over rated. Alan Kerins doesn't do enougn at club level. You cant leave Andy Coen, Joe Gantley, Mark Kerins or Daithi Burke.

Pigeon?!

Ah well, we're never all going to agree anyway. I left out Joe Gantley in error, and I presume you mean David Burke not Daithi Burke(Turlough)
I wouldnt really have G Quinn on it - if it wasnt for his frees you have to wonder would he have even held such a regular place on the Gort side never mind people talking about him making county.
In relation to G. Mahon and I.Tannian's places - it wasnt an "All Star" team based on this years form - it was based on who I believe are the best players. Tannian would have a hard job to impress over the past year while he was crocked!
