Poll* Would you like a United Ireland

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Pull yourself together Horsey, what youre effectively saying is that because the Celts came here in 650 BC and settled in Ireland, Ireland never belonged to the Irish! hahahaha, if I didnt cry id laugh!!!!

Thats what you want to think i'm saying, I was and still am trying to get from you when is the cut off [point for becoming irish. The reality is a united ireland is just a Catchphrase at this stage, a country cannot be united unless everybody concerned want to be part of it and right now a large number dont.

hahahaha, if I didnt cry id laugh!!!!
Why did you cry
Well dont over this stuff anyway, there are more important issues in life to dwell upon. It has ruined enough lives already

454502 Does anyone here think Germany should not have been united?

I do, but the main thing was everybody in Germany did, thats the important difference to ireland, also it had only been divided 30 years or so

I would prefer a united europe before a united ireland, and a united world before that too.

It sickens me some people on this site. Only caring about themselves.

If it was not for those brave men and women many many years ago we would not be were we are today.

Yet after 800 years of oppression and one of the biggest mass murders ever (THE FAMINE), alot of Irish people, as 32_4_1 said, are still happy to take the Unionists side of the argument. Sad is what it is.

Patrique, I read the link and its hardly definitive. Even within the content of the link it states this. However it was an interesting read.

Green and Red, the country has only been divided for 90 odd years. As well as this Northern Ireland has existed longer than the Republic of Ireland. Imagine that!

Sad is what it is. Youre a very wise man Connolly Dub! That's exactly what it was. People say 'ah sure forget about the past, that was 800 years ago!' But is it any wonder at all why there is hostility between the Irish and the English? They killed millions of Irish, purposely, they took a part of our country and the have denied Catholics their rights throughout 100's of years in Ireland! I remember Gerry Adams saying, 'if the British had to compensate us for all they have done, they'd be a very long time paying.' I don't hate the Brits, I dont hate anyone, but it is not possible to forget what they did to innocent people. Words cannot describe what they did to us. The least they can do is give our country back. It's not like they want it! The North of Ireland is an insignificant part of their empire, it rightfully belongs to Ireland-and despite it being officially under their control, The North of Ireland will always remain a part of Ireland, and any Northern Irish person can and should say 'I'm Irish' because in that regard, they are totally correct.

Now I know why I could never get a job teaching history. It is obviously not on the syllabus anymore.

"Britain killing millions of Catholics in Ireland". and stuff like that. Obviously none of the well to do 60,000 rich Catholic farmers supporting landlord Daniel O'Connell at the monster rallies.

Get a grip.

And sad to say but we still have economic famines all over the world. In Ireland the money people thought it would be great if there were cattle on the land instead of people, along came the famine, object achieved. An economic decision. In Africa today famine could be wiped out overnight, but then a loaf of bread in Dunne's would cost 10 cents, so we can't have that so we DUMP most of the world's wheat crop into the sea.

Some things never change but WE still allow it to happen.

during the famine the irish farmers sold their crops to the british army , the english papers and english politicians were disgusted at this and helped set up the soup kitchens and other things to help the irish starving , but the poor british were also hit by the potato famine but the difference is the english looked after their own but us irish would prefere to see our neighbours starve to get that extra few bob in the bank , it was a bad time in irish history but we can not soley lay the blame at the english

Surely not a racist slur Patrique? Glad to see you've stopped smoking. I remember the days when you could smoke inside that you held court quite regularly in GNT. I also recall you saying that the Irish are the most racist people in the world. Maybe you are right!!

i dont see what your problem is with countyrs reuniting dhorse. you said you wouldnt of wanted germany united. and why not. they are now one of the most advanced countys in the world behind only the likes of the us and maybe japan

and i see you've lowered yourself to the ultimate loyalist arguement. when was ireland united as a single independent entity?. there has been plenty of high kings before the normans came. and ye there was a lot of fighting but at the time where wasnt there rebellions. ireland was still one entity which seemed to fight amongst itself alot but nevertheless was still one. the high kings rule was a official as any at the time. and i dont see how that arguement makes it ok for the brits to be still in ireland
