Ballboy, can you not or will you not debate the points. Not once in your reply did you address any of my points, just spouted off about the law, freedom fighters, religion etc. The fact is that the reason that the North has a religious problem is that Engalnd encouraged and managed such a scenario. I can very well see both sides of the coin. I regularly debate such issues with numerous associates with Unionist leanings. I understand their viewpoint and they understand mine. Sometimes we don't agree on most points we do. I sometimes wonder if the bitterness you show is not worse than that of the most vehement bigot that we have up here. At least there is rational thinking from O'GALL when he makes his comments. I don't agree with him the vast majority of the time but the basis of his posts have a logic to them. Could you not take a few lessons from him?

If 200,000 polish moved to roscommon and roscommon was declared part of poland would that make the irish people in roscommon niot irish...

well said hokeypokey. People on here seem to forget that ALL of Ireland was in the UK 90 years ago. I don't hear folk banging on about having british grandparents, great grandparents etc. Michael Collins was born when we were all in the UK. Is he british then? Of course not !!

Anybody who is a member of the GAA and would not like to see a united Ireland should remember: "Since she has not control over all the national territory, Ireland's claim to nationhood is impaired. It would be still more impaired if she were to lose her language, if she failed to provide a decent livelihood for her people at home, or if she were to forsake her own games and customs in favour of the games and customs of another nation. If pride in the attributes of nationhood dies, something good and distinctive in our race dies with it. Each national quality that is lost makes us so much poorer as a Nation. Today, the native games take on a new significance when it is realised that they have been a part, and still are a part, of the Nation's desire to live her own life, to govern her own affairs. Basic Aim The Association is a National Organisation which has as its basic aim the strengthening of the National Identity in a 32 County Ireland through the preservation and promotion of Gaelic Games and pastimes." From the official guide. I don't know which is worse, West Brits down South who are against a united Ireland, or the nationalists / republicans up north who look down on us Mexicans for "not doing enough" in the struggle.

Here let's get something right.

It was NOT the BRITISH "who came in". It was the FRENCH, NORMANS from NORMANDY.

Now, take it from there.

What about the Tunisians Patrique? The French, Normans whatever did not try and eliminate our culture all the same. The first systematic plantations were overseen by the English Patrique so less of your sematics

So how far are we going to go back? I don't see images of tribal African leaders or Napolean or anything like that around Ireland, but you will notice the odd statue of British militarists and the odd street name with a Royal British theme therefore I know which culture has had the greatest impact in this country

Have to say your a gas man Ballboy, the temerity to call any other place an economic basket case when your govt is borrowing 400 million each week just to keep the buses etc going. Your dead right ballboy, why would us folk up here want to attach ourselves to a fiscal failure of the magnitude of the free state.
