County final

Trev, you seem very bitter towards against St Pats. Why would they appeal? They were beaten by a better team.
Only criticism, I would have, would be that Barry Mernagh should have been red carded for the "High & Dangerous Tackle."
Well Done to Rathnew and Good Luck in Leinster!

Rathnew deserved the win without a doubt(from a pats man through and through)....

The pathetic comments on here particularly from you Trev are laughable to be honest and you are only really making a show of your own town...Dont be bitter because ya's didn't make it past the quater finals...

And to an earlier comment about pats supporters going the way of the beehive....They go that way because it is a faster route to glenhealy you wally and you will notice the majority of pats fans and teams will travel that way to all of their Aughrim matches with a few exceptions of course....

As usual though Rathnew fans and players dont know how to win with grace and had to drive through the town beeping their horns etc etc....Yet as a fan of 2004 final driving home through the village(quietly I might add) our car was in fact stoned by kids outside the rathnew house...Seems like they cant take what they dish out...Learn to win with grace boys and you will liked far more around the county...

But Pat's will there or there abouts next year mark my words and so well done on this year and looking forward again to 2010 championship.....

Thought was a poor enough game, rathnew much the better team tho, stafford was immense and bruiser and the full forward, pats seemed of the pace never got into it!!!

regarding the comments on rathnew fans thrwing stones and pats fans throwing eggs, unfortunatly there always going to be sad individuals who do these things, i,ve seen it from both sides,, do you really think ifpat had won they wouldn't hae drove back through rathnew,, i don't htink so.... i walked in to fitz in wicklow to show no hard feelings after the last time they beat rathnew in the final,, but they weren't singing about winning the championship but instead were singing you'll never win 9 i a row,, so it obviously ment more to them to stop rathnew then winning a county final, but its not everyone you also fans who turn up at finals drapped in flags with there faces painted which i have no proplem with but you also see some who know nothing about football shouting and abusing the opposing fans making us all look the same and where were all these people for the first round of the championship or when the team is playing at home of a cold night in the lashing rain,, no where to be seen but they still be happy enough to bask in the glory and invade pitches at the final whistle some even throw eggs and stones at the opposing fans,, my point is that all towns and villages and teams have bad elements it doesn't mean that everyone is the same, congrats rathnew,, i'm delighted,, hard look pats sure you'll be around for a good while yet

Congratulations to Rathnew on Sunday. Magnificent display all round. Was a bit disappointed with Pat's though. Was expecting a tight affair with very little quarter given between the teams but that never really materialised. You never felt Rathnew were going to lose. Game was won and lost at midfield where Stafford was immense and Rathnew picked up all the breaks. That's two years on the trot now Pat's haven't performed in the final and you'd wonder whether they can bounce back at all. They seemed to lack the hunger for battle on the day and when teams put it up to them they seem wanting. Best of luck to Rathnew in Leinster!!

Congrats to Rathnew - better team on the day. Pats did not (or weren't allowed to) play up to their potential. Hopefully Staff will remain fit, and in Ireland, to guide the county through Div 4 next season. Pats will come back but only with a change of personnel on the sideline - not mentioning any names but I don't mean Casey or Gerry.
As regards " through the Village or through the Deputy's Pass", a lot of small minded people about. I gladly returned through the village and had good post match analysis and banter with Villagers both on Sunday night and in Fitz's Wicklow on Monday afternoon.

Went to see Ballyboden and Kilmacud last night.. I have a feeling that Rathnew could do damage to Ballyboden if they win on Sunday! They are strong in midfield but Stafford is capable of holding his own against anyone. Once Conal Keany gets the ball for them he shoots.. Very little passing from him.. If they lost last night he would have been to blame! 3 wides in the last 5 minutes of normal time from ridiculous angles

Hey Dandy did Brian McGrath play and if so how did he do , Thought he was the player most improved as the championship went on this year .

He was wing back.. He started very well and done ok in the second half but during extra time he wasn't seen that much. Still he was one of Crokes better performers!

I thought the match on sunday was a very poor affair and the referring standard was poor. i sincerely hope they have chosen a decent referee for the hurling final on Sunday as there is a history between those two volatile teams. When the ccounty board harge 15 in to watch a game the public deserve a good game of football or hurling not a mediocre game ruined . Will live in hope that they will make the right decision and have learned from past mistakes.

Not a great final on Sunday more like a friendly no real Championship fervour from Pats. After the first quarter there was a sense of inevitability about it all Rathnew were dominant in every area of the field. The Pats fullback line had no answer to Gill,Glynn and Doyle,Stafford and Kavanagh ruled midfield and the Rathnew back line especially Byrne,Power and Healy were rarely troubled ,there was only 3 points in it in the end but could have been treble that or more if Rathnew had taken all there chances,it could very easily been 3.14 to 1.8 at the end.Pats didn't seem to have any stomach for the battle and not one of their players won his own personal duel with his immediate opponent. This Rathnew team is going to get better it is a very young side and reminds me of the great team that started out in the 90s,and its not inconceivable that they could go on a long winning run like their predecessors if they have they desire to do so.

Disappointed with the ref comment as a Pats fan. I thought he was very good and it wasn't a hard game to referee because Rathnew were in such control. Rathnew on top in every position and thats why they won. In fairness the scoreline did not represent the game as the goal was from a keeper error. That said he saved well a few minutes after to keep Rathnew ahead.

Questioning the referee is in bad taste....

was in at the Kilmacud Ballyboden game myself on tuesday night and Rathnew have nothing to fear with Ballyboden at all.Boden won every break and worked very hard for each other but are limited.Conal Keaney just does what he likes and follows the ball.I would be very confident in Rathnew beating them if Boden overcome Judes.Boden's full back line would not be able for Glynn,Doyle and Gill.Brian mcGrath started very well but seemed to tire come extra time.Suppose thats natural coz he has had a long year on the go

Patsfan.I thought the Ref did a decent job on Sunday used common sense and there was no real real flash points i think you are being a bit unkind to the two teams in the hurling final when you say they are volatile, they are the best two teams in the County and are passionate about their game and are a bit like Kilkenny who play on the edge, but there is nothing wrong with that most winning sides do,that was the core problem with Pats last week they had no bottle or appetite for a battle and there is no point blaming the Ref it wasn't his job to win the game for Pats.

Well believer im entitled to my opinionjust as you are. not saying that the ref's decisions decided the outcome of the game, on the day the team that were hungrier won. I still do feel that the standard of referring in the county needs to improve greatly. Lads all over the county train week in week out in all weathers and deserve to have the best standard of referring at all times. No one likes to loose a match because of bad decisions i.e. Leighton Glynn who had his sending off ban overturned. I rest my case.

Well pistelero we agree on one thing Glenealy and Carnew are the 2 best teams in the county, hoping for an exciting and sporting game on Sunday which i will be at. But I have also attended numerous county finals over the past 2 decades and have seen lots of bad decisions and refs who cannot control a highly charged game. on Sunday we need a ref. who takes command of the game from the off set and lets the players know who is in charge. if that happens we are in for a great final. Too close to call.

Locky 09 , Glad to see your luk'n forward to the game on Sunday.
Lets hope the weather holds up, Dry day ,Dry Ball - suits Earls,O'Sullivan,Smullen , Kelly,Slattery , Duffy, pretty venomous
forwards for a Club team by any standard.

Rath Naoi back line will have major difficulties, dealing any 1 of them never mind all 6
The yr.ends in 9 is always lucky for St.Pats - Just like Tottenham their year ending in 1

The Clubhouse will be "rocking" at 8.30pm or so on Sunday evening
Fitz's will be full to the brim on Monday at 10.am with the Monday stew been served out of "MILEY"
Naom Padraigh Abu !!!
