U21 A hurling championship

Who are favourites for the county this year?

N.C.W beat Ballingarry today by a point coming from 7points down in a fairly impressive second half display, surely they wont be in with a chance of winning the county as it is a predominently football club. But a west A final in hurling and football is fairly impresive and i dont think it has been done in years. Has it?

Kilmallock I presume would be one of the favourites along with Doon, Na Piarsaigh, P'Well, in the West final NCW opponents should be Allaghaun Gaels (they should accont for a fairly weak Knockaderry side in the other semi final), this has makings of great final, great win for the magpies yesterday over a fancied Granagh/Ballingarry side, NCW have some lovely classy U21's, very pacy and skillfull

Kilmallock and doon would be good as would Patrickswell from the other divisions and county for a west side may be bridge too far simply because teams lack a competitive round of games and don't know when exactly this championship will be played!
The west board need to review the timing of the u21 hurling championship badly, in my opinion it should be played along with the 21 football champ!

The west final will be well contested, ncw beating the favourites after a great comeback, ballingarry failed to kill them off and the never say die attitude of mark and james kelly along with michael quilligan and sean neville gave them sweet revenge for the west minor final defeat of 3 years ago!
Allaughan and knockaderry will be a tight game, allaughan gaels are missing a few through injury and tournafula and glantine have not had a good year on the senior front tho their minors won the west B! I just think knockaderry will shade it and also shade the west overall!

i def agree with chopp, the first round of west 21s hurling is schedualed for a week after the end of leaving cert examinations and yet the semi-final was only played last saturday!! NCW could win west but doubtful county contenders as they rely on those select few and on another day could have been blown away by G/B. One would have to feel for G/B as they were there own worst enemy by taking foot off the gas after half-time and let NCW back into game with two goals and missing a goal and a few point chances themselves.
But i definatly would have my money on Kilmallock as they've won it nearly every year in this age group all the way up and have the man power to do so. Wouldn't rule out doon or the well either tho..

with so many city teams in county finals this comp in city looks like it wont finish with only two first round matchs played with 5 teams playing each other once and top 2 final looks like teams may have to be nominated.

Great win for Allaghaun Gaels yesterday against a weak Knockaderry side as predicted, The Gaels looked a slick, fast. sharp team, defended brilliantly and took some great scores, but the poor opposition has to be taken into account, how did Knockaderry allow their defence to be so exposed after the sending off, but credit to the Gaels management for their excellent tactics of exposing the two man Knockaderry full back line, should be a super final next weekend against a very fancied NewCastle West outfit, what a pity that one of the Gaels main attacking players will miss the final beacuse of a decision by the ref to send off a player from each side for a tiny, minor scuffle, didnt even merit a yellow card for either player, NCW will start as favourites but will be pushed all the way by the Gaels, has makings of a cracker

bruff are being treated as underdogs.. kilmallock and the like are being shone as favourites. bruff came to within 1 point of kilmalock in the south this year and probably should have won if anyone was at it.. and all players on the team underage again next year

ballybrown and na piarsaigh seem to be the two strongest teams in the city, will na piarsaigh reach another county final this year. kilmallock v. na piarsaigh county final.

Ballybrown 3-15 Na Piarsaigh 1-12, played yesterday. Na Piarsaigh missing a number of players but Ballybrown looked good, a strong physical side that's well able to score.

Heard that Ahane beat Doon 2 - 12 to 7 points. Played today ay Ahane new pitch. Mike Carr, Sean Madden and Cormac Joyce Power best for Ahane. Doon struggled all over and were in difficulty from the start. I think Na Piarsiag now play Ahane in qtr final.

East Final: Ahane 2.11 (2.8 from play). Doon 6 points (5 from play). Ahane are a strong, physical team, particularly up the middle, full back Daragh Madden, Centre, Mike Carr, mid-field Cormac Joyce Power, centre forward Sean Madden (1.5 today), full forward Richard Ryan.

thomond, how are na piarsaigh playing ahane in the 1/4 final, the pairings for the city final hasn't even happened yet. there are still plenty of games in the city
division to go yet.

Under 16s cannot play Under 21. A player can't play two age groups above his own. Funny thing is, an Under 16 player can play Senior!
