Brian McGilligan and Anthony Tohill I believe were the best pairing in recent years (last qtr century) but unfortunately internal disputes in Derry meant that Tohill lost mc gilligans his services. Deegan/McCarton of Down were also imposing. I remember Pat Spillane crying that Down were only winning matches becuase of their midfield dominance in the early 90's.

In the present era, I think Hughes/Cavanagh is the best pairing around. It could certainly be argued that Kerrys is strongest given Scanlons xcellent performance in the final this year, but Hughes has always had the edge on O Se and would feel the odss on Cavanagh outshining Scanlon on a given day are pretty strong as well. Of course it could also be said that Cavanagh is now a 'forward' rather than midfielder and while that is in recent history true, I think midfield is his better position and he will play a portion of most games in that sector.

When did Cormac play Midfield Dell? I only ever recall him as a defender. I could be wrong.

think Jack O'Shea is the daddy of them all when it comes to midfielders so guess u could put anybody with him and they'd still be the top pairing, he was a joy to watch had it all and is the undoubted master, in my humble opinion. will take some argument to convince me otherwise tomato whelo doesnt even come close!
