I for one think the 00's does not even compare to the 90's in terms of football. The 90's had 11 different finalists with 9 different winners. The 00's had 7 different finalist and only 4 different winners. Its turned so predictable with the same teams contesting it every year. Hopefully we can look forward to a better 10's. sammaguire09 (Kildare) - Posts: 101 - 22/09/2009 19:00:43 433520 Link 0 |
The 90's any day for me. I think the introduction of the current qualifier system has greatly damaged the championship with the provincial championships now meaning little or nothing. The intensity has totally gone out of the start of the summer. The 90's provided us with matches like the Meath v. Dublin epic 4 matches in '91, what did the 00's bring us? The first Monaghan v. Derry match this year. Great. Royal_Girl2k9 (Meath) - Posts: 2107 - 22/09/2009 19:51:56 433569 Link 0 |
Oh the Tyrone Mafia won't like this thread, according to them Gaelic Games only began in the oo's, they have selective memory loss. 90's by a long shot. PJ (None) - Posts: 2288 - 22/09/2009 20:07:25 433584 Link 0 |
The 90s was a great year for football and hurling too. football had Derry and Donegal making the breakthrough, Galway and Down re-emerging. in hurling we had Offaly, Clare and Wexford and the start of a good Waterford side. A great decade for GAA. Now PJ, don't be a wise a**!! wise_guy (Tyrone) - Posts: 1584 - 22/09/2009 20:25:57 433606 Link 0 |

I mean i can understand why you would say the 00's was better but at the start of each 00's championship you could always see where the contenders were coming from bar a couple of surprises up until maybe the semi-final stages. Even many of the finals were useless...the one's with Mayo, the one's with Cork, the emergence of negative football coming to the fore and beginning to overcome freeflowing football. sammaguire09 (Kildare) - Posts: 101 - 22/09/2009 22:22:23 433766 Link 0 |
The 90's for me, not because we won 2 All Irelands in the 90's and we've been crap in the 00's. But simply down to the fact that football was far more physical in the 90's, even though its not that long ago, but football for me has changed completely and not for the better. Like did you ever see a player from any county dive in the 90's or lie down to get an opponent sent off?????????? No.15 (Down) - Posts: 193 - 22/09/2009 22:44:20 433808 Link 0 |

The 90's by a country mile. We never had any of this negative football and the provincial championships meant something to the fans and the players, not like nowadays. bountyhunter (Cavan) - Posts: 302 - 22/09/2009 23:17:37 433875 Link 0 |

I think the 90s saw an increase in the belief by many more counties in their ability to compete at the top level, but it also coincided with the demise and rebuilding of the Kerry team from 1986 through to 1999, with only the 1 title in 97 (which they won thanks to MAYO!!!!!!!!!). Since 2000, Kerry have re-established themselves at the fore-front with the majority of teams conceding defeat before or in the case of Dublin, Cork and Mayo in recent years, immediately after throw-in. Thanks be to God for Armagh, Tyrone and Galway for they'd have won the bloody lot otherwise. I think financial resources is going to play a big part over the next 5 years or so, which leaves Tyrone with reasonable prospects as long as the Club Tyrone keeps raking it in On_the_ditch (Tyrone) - Posts: 98 - 22/09/2009 23:51:55 433925 Link 0 |
