i wouldnt be surprised if you see a couple of players from div 3 getting the call!!saying James Mc Cartan is a former tullylish player,he might have his eyes on a couple of players like John Mc Areavey and Gareth Johnstone!! squareball_99 (Down) - Posts: 55 - 30/09/2009 15:46:02 441049 Link 0 |
just because McCartan is a former Tullylish man doesn't mean he will pick Johnson and McAreavey because they play for Tullylish. These two if they get on the team will be there on their ability and they are able to add a different mentality to the team banker (Down) - Posts: 36 - 30/09/2009 16:19:14 441082 Link 0 |
its great to see the selectors and James taking a new approch the selecting! This year they are actually conducting trails from the best talent throughout the divisions! spsmarms (Down) - Posts: 64 - 30/09/2009 16:41:20 441124 Link 0 |
Yes, hearing about how he's going to meet the Div 3 & Div 4 managers, then the Div 2 managers, for advice about the best players in those Divisions is a really good thing. It means the best of Down will get a shot by being in the county team. I think his main aim with this is to find strong defensive players for the Down county team. For years we've struggled defensively. ajdoyle78 (Down) - Posts: 520 - 01/10/2009 07:01:48 441649 Link 0 |
James says he will attending three games over the weekend. will one of them be the div 4 final on Sat in Saval? think this has to be one of them, how better to see the talent in Div 4 than watch the two best teams in it? newryview (Down) - Posts: 748 - 01/10/2009 10:31:36 441739 Link 0 |
HA ha ha James going to the division 4 final would you wise up newryview. 2 very poor teams whose best players arent even with their clubs anymore. Maybe he should have went to watch Bright v Ballykinlar eh ? sam12345 (Down) - Posts: 24 - 02/10/2009 09:30:03 442725 Link 0 |
I can save James Mccartan a bit of time and tell him now the only player in Div 3 worth a place on the county panel is Paul McComiskey (who is already there). Seriously the standard in Div 3 & 4 is very poor and if James & Co are serious about winning anything then they should stick to div 1 or better still beg micky Harte for a few fringe players (James could get them a caravan in burren for a season or two) GlennSlapHead (Down) - Posts: 3 - 02/10/2009 11:10:27 442805 Link 0 |
Kevy Anderson, John McAreavey and Rory Simpson would be well worth giving a chance so Paul McComiskey is not the only div 3 player to be considered. Also, few young Glenn players in a year or two may be worth a shot. Though maybe that's a bit further ahead than we should be thinking! David McGreevey of Teconnaught would also be worth a trial. Don't judge a player by their club, it just happens to be the parish they live in. We can't all go around buying houses to play for better teams! icantshoot (Down) - Posts: 64 - 02/10/2009 16:01:30 443132 Link 0 |

I've yet to hear anyone mention one player that has been the most consistent footballer in the championship 09 in my eyes, and from his own team mates seems to be the rock of their defence.should have recieved man of the match yesterday kilcoo's number 3 niall morgan.get this man measured up for the down number 3 jersey.surely down footballer of the year gaa.egghead (Down) - Posts: 35 - 05/10/2009 21:45:33 445875 Link 0 |
John McAreavey had his chance and couldnt cut it in big matches when the pressure was on in my opinion. One player worth a look at over the next year would be the St Johns full forward dont know his name or if he was playing all year but hit 7 pts against glenn on saturday and gave the glenn defence all sorts of problems.
